Texasangler14 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Hey guys. Just moved down to florida and learned gambler is all the rage down here. I know the big ez is pretty versatile and folks are using heavy braid on a Swimbait hook and burning it across the surface but how does it work with a heavier Swimbait hook on 20lb Fluoro around stumps and in river channels with little cover? In texas Swimbait fishing usually means the latter. any input appreciated! Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted February 11, 2015 Super User Posted February 11, 2015 You can wake it across the surface, slow swim it mid depth, work it like a jerkbait with twitches & pauses & swim it then let it drop into pockets in the weed cover. I like to use it with a owner 6/0 3/320z twistlock light weighted hook model 5167W-706. 1 Quote
doyle8218 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I fish it on a 1/8-1/4 Eagle Claw Lazer Weighted Swimbait 60 Degree Hook 12 lb Yo-Zuri. I pitch it, swim it. hop it... and anything else I can do. Nice bait. Quote

I believe using one of the Owner Twistlock Weighted EWG Swim Bait hook offers more flexibility with a paddle tail allowing you to fish more different types of conditions without hanging up ! 1 Quote
Joedodge Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I'm gonna get into fishing some of these this spring for sure. Anyone have a color preference. I he some white ones I acquired but no real luck Quote
tennsopher Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I live here in Fla (Orlando) and yes Gambler baits are big down here.I fish these on 5/0 gammys or the owner beast hook.As far as color goes try the Copperfield or green pumpkin.I prefer the copperfield as it mimics the baitfish down here golden shiners.
