Josh Smith Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Hi Folks, I have a reel handle that I really like. Looks like it's off a Johnny Morris: The reel handle is on my 5500c3 (modified). I took the reel handle apart and it has plastic bushings instead of bearings. I'd like to replace these bushings with bearings, but reel handles are one place I'm simply not educated. Growing up the good reel handles were Gator Grips and Power Speed handles. Any help, guys? Thank you, Josh Quote
FloridaFishinFool Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 You need a digital micrometer to take accurate measurements of bushings & bearings to replace them. You can buy them on ebay for less than $10.00 or your local Harbor Freight sells them too. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Durable-Plastic-150mm-Electronic-Digital-LCD-Vernier-Caliper-Micrometer-HCCA-/331388971937?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item4d28526ba1 http://www.harborfreight.com/6-inch-composite-digital-caliper-93293.html Usually reel bearings are measured in mm, and start with inner diameter first, outer diameter next, and thickness last- ID X OD X Th And with that being said, all of my reel handles use the same size bearings: MR85-ZZ 5mm X 8mm X 2.5mm. I have no idea if this size is the same size as what you need, so please measure your bushings before trying to replace with bearings. If they are this same size, you can buy 10 of them on ebay for less than $5.00 with free shipping: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-PCS-SMR85ZZ-5x8x2-5mm-440c-Stainless-Steel-Ball-Bearing-MR85ZZ-5-8-2-5-/301151727662?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item461e0ab02e 1 Quote
