Matthew2000 Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Am I the only one who does this ? I really like the PTL craw o'Deuerve, I used this a lot during the summer while I was in NE Ohio and caught quite a bit of fish the biggest being about three pounds. If you do this what baits do you use? I'm looking to expand a little bit just need some insight. Quote
ChrisWi Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I know the user A-Jay dropshots a baby rage craw, I'm sure he will chime in soon. 2 Quote
corn-on-the-rob Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I am from NE ohio and do this but not as much as minnow imitations. I like the havoc slop craw or powerbait crazy legs chigger craw (any smaller beaver bait works too for me). I do use tubes a lot on DS but they can represent either craw or fish. I like to use thick or bulky things for craw on DS because the minnow/fish baits already give me the slim profile. Quote

I wasn't having succes on the fish presentation one day so switched to the craw and had pretty good success my first day. I tend to lean to the craw more still in the experimentimg stage of what baits to use and all that good stuff. BTW what lakes do you fish ? 1 Quote
bassguytom Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I use craw baits on a dropshot in the summer for smallmouth. If you like Powerteam lures try the Hammer Shad I think you will like that also. 1 Quote

I mainly use their stuff on the dropshot come to think of it. Quote

Lake Erie is my main lake, but this past year I fished a bunch of new-to-me lakes in the Akron area like West Branch Reservoir, Lake Milton, Mogadore Reservoir, and Portage Lakes (north reservoir, turkeyfoot). Oh cool, I fish most of the lakes in the Youngstown area, Milton, Berlin, and Evans. Although I occasionlay fish mosquito, and a good amount of small golf course lake/ponds. Quote

Matthew2000 Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Very cool. How well do you do on Milton? Not to great I didn't get a chance to really fish it as much as I wanted to this year. I lost a 7 pounder on Evans that was the best producing this year. Milton has been hit or miss for me, not real sure why it just is. Quote

I have only been on Milton once so far and didn't do very good, but neither did the club. I have heard from the locals that it can be very tough most of the times but it is a cool little lake to catch both small and largemouth. Quote

Chris, I'm guilty as charged ~ I started out the year with a Baby Rage Craw on the drop shot and as the season wore on, I up graded to standard Rage Craw. I could tell you how good it was but I'd rather just show you . . . . A-Jay 2 Quote
Trent Wilson Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Oh...it's so cute. I didn't know they could get so small. What's that? About 6lb? 1 Quote

Super User Felix77 Posted February 11, 2015 Super User Posted February 11, 2015 Missile Baits Fuse 4.4 or Drop Craw worked for me some last year. 1 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted February 11, 2015 Super User Posted February 11, 2015 I use the Strike King baby rodent as well as the Missile Fuse 4.4. Quote
Matthew2000 Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Missile Baits Fuse 4.4 or Drop Craw worked for me some last year. The only problem is they don't have much action at all. Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Action is definitely not an issue with the PowerTeam Lures Craw D'oeuvre, Texas Rig Jig or even the Diesel Craw. The baits are neutrally buoyant, so even the slightest twitch of the line or current movement will impart action from the appendages like a natural craw would. Quote

One of the smaller lakes I fished has about 8 feet visibility in places, so I went right over a brush pile and sight fished with a dropshot. It was pretty cool watching the fish dart out of the brush pile to try and get the little craw. Especially when I barely moved it and the legs with go up in the defensive position. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted February 13, 2015 Super User Posted February 13, 2015 Yum Craw Chunks and BPS Hollow Craw (I can't find them anymore, not sure if that is even the name!) Quote
hatrix Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 I am also from NE Ohio and use craws sometimes. There are a couple missile baits ones I like. One is actually called a drop craw... The other I forget but it's telsrively slender and doesn't have big claws or flappers like a rage craw or chigger craw. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted September 10, 2015 Super User Posted September 10, 2015 I drop shot the small pit boss quite a bit, as well as the usual assortment of finesse worms, stick baits, and assorted other stuff. I power shot the "regular" size pit boss often too, as far as I am concerned, any and every soft plastic bait I have is fair game for drop shotting and/or power shotting. If you box yourself into thinking that only worms or little finesse baits are the only thing to use, your doing yourself a disservice, and missing catchable fish. Same thing goes for this whole " a bait on a shaky head has to float/stick straight up, etc.." nonsense..... But that's another rant for another time lol. 2 Quote
blckshirt98 Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I've tried the Missile Baits drop craw but it's too small for my liking, the Fuse is a better option and one of the most durable plastics I've used on a dropshot. My favorite dropshot craw though is probably the Lake Fork LFT Craw. Quote
