Trent Wilson Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 r the guides on the new ones as good as the black ones? X2. I've been told the black are better. Quote
kikstand454 Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 As I don't own either, its all in store comparison. But as mentioned above. ... if anything, the white rods seem less tip heavy- but the black ones arent really tip heavy at all. So its kinda eh. If you put them on a scale, the white one is probably lighter. ...but I could barely tell. Quote
Trent Wilson Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 Basically just pick one that looks better with your reel. Quote
cottny27 Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 What reel ya got Trent? I just purchased the new white carbonlite reel. Total thumbs up for $85. I don't think anything is close in that price range Quote
Trent Wilson Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 Ones I'm looking at are 129.99 at BPS. And a Lew's BB1HLZ. Best reel I've ever used. Quote
cottny27 Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Nice. Lews will prob be the next reel I purchase. People that use them praise them. Quote
Trent Wilson Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 Have any backlash issues with your current reel? Quote
I.rar Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I like my black ML casting carbonlite. I was slaying dinks this past weekend casting t rigged 4" alive shads with 1/16 oz weights on my stock curado 51. I paid $70 for mine and feel they're definitely worth their msrp. Quote
Trent Wilson Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Where the heck are you finding these rods at? I've only found them at BPS and they're 109.99 for black micro and 129.99 for white micro. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 11, 2015 Super User Posted February 11, 2015 Where the heck are you finding these rods at? I've only found them at BPS and they're 109.99 for black micro and 129.99 for white micro. In-store only sales right now. If you can find a BPS near you, maybe they'll have stock, maybe not. Either way, after the in-store Spring Classic, it will probably go online, and you might find deals then. Maybe, not for certain at this point. EDIT: Price depends on length and whether or not micro. I bought my 6'6" ML for $63 and change (tax included). Quote
Trent Wilson Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 I will be there Saturday. And I'm looking at the new 7' MH with micro. Pricey. Quote
robster80 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 arent they on sale tho? or is that the regular guide ones for like 89? Quote
Trent Wilson Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 I'm looking online. They may be cheaper in store. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted February 11, 2015 BassResource.com Administrator Posted February 11, 2015 Ya Trent, I get it. You don't like the idea of spending a lot on fishing gear. That's fine. Nothing wrong with that at all. However, the way you couched it - using the word "stupid" - it came out differently than you intended. Hence the comments. I'm sure you didn't intend to imply people were stupid for spending that kind of bucks, but it came out sounding that way. Sometimes things can be interpreted completely different than you were thinking when you posted it. Just something to take note as you type out your comments. Quote
Trent Wilson Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 My apologies, I should have been more in depth with what I was saying. I meant it one way but was taken another. my mistake. Quote
Trent Wilson Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 If I can find them for the prices ya'll are posting, I'll buy them out. Quote
kikstand454 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I will chime in and say that I have a new white carbonlite reel and I love it in every single way ( so far) . It is stupid light, feels solid, and is one of the - if not THE- most trouble free casts I've ever had. Once I figured the braking out ( about 10-12 casts) I haven't touched it since. Time will tell if it holds up. I have some old bps reels that just won't die ( old blue rick clunn... ) and I have had bps reels that barely made it a year. Fingers crossed on this one! Quote
Trent Wilson Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 It's gonna be hard to get me away from the Lew's. That centrifugal magnet system....like Ronco. Set it and forget it. I honestly don't remember changing it since I set it out in the yard. Quote
cottny27 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Trent, I actually haven't put line on mine just yet. I have the other model that came out last year and it casts flawless. Its the same exact reel just gray in color...same guts. Quote
Trent Wilson Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 If you take the side cover off and engage all the magnets, no backlash. I haven't had one yet. Quote
cottny27 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 This one has an inner knob setting and outer. Not sure I even have to take side cover off to engage the magnets. Quote
Trent Wilson Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Oh, you've got a different model. Mine has no magnet knob. Just 6 switches on the spool that I can adjust for wind and what not. Yours is still a great reel though. Quote
Trent Wilson Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Well, I don't think I need more distance and the brake is set to basically nothing. I'm already throwing 1/4 oz lures on a 3/8 - 1 oz rod into anywhere from 5-15mph winds. And if anyone needs pics of any rod or reel I've mentioned, I can't get pics to load on here. Pm me a phone number or email and I'll happily share them. Quote
