BRAID:

Braid = everything!

Mono = Nothing!

I should not say nothing- but I have not used mono for fishing for decades. I will not use mono for anything other than backing up braid or fused superline on a spool.

I use braid or fused superlines for everything these days and I don't use a leader either. It is braid or fused superline from reel to lure.

I don't use mono but I do enjoy a good copoly like yozuri hybrid. Other than that exception I use braid/fluoro.

Copoly, FC, Mono = Everything

I'm not opposed to braid, I just don't care for it.

More & more I've switched to braid for main line applications. All of these rigs, from panfish to bass, have fluorocarbon leaders. I do have one musky rig set up with 25 lb. test Triple Fish mono that I use with my swimbaits and for northern pike fishing. I'm not really seeing a need for mono main lines anymore, unless you're talking topwater fishing and/or some panfish applications. Braids have come a long way.

Braid - any of my bottom contact baits, with or without a mono or fluoro leader

Mono - Most of my moving baits, such as spinner baits, crankbaits, and paddletail swimbaits. Also backing for the braid.

X2 except I use Mono for swim baits.

Funny how mono is just plain wrong, and Bill Dance, Roland Martin, Jimmy Houston and countless others built careers using the stuff.

Braid  = Frogging, punching, Jungle/Garden Fishing (Heavy Cover), Flossing my teeth when when out of Floss,

             Sewing my torn jeans while bank fishing, When my daughter needs a few yards for her art class projects.

Mono = Crankbaits (Stretch help on keeping them hooked), Windy Conditions, small light wired hooked baits,

             When my daughter needs a few yards for her art class projects, Christmas Decoration setup, Flossing my

             teeth when out of floss and braid,

Either Braid or Mono - Other techniques I can use either Braid or Mono.

                                    Spinnerbaits, dropshots, wacky rigs, Jigs, T/C rigs, Cane Pole, etc.

 Well, I am in another boat I guess. Most of the water I fish is VERY clear and I am a massive fan of Micro Guides. I Fish braided line for Frogging and Punching thick cover. I use fluorocarbon for everything else except Topwater baits, That is what I use Mono for.

Thicker mono is good for top waters like walk the dog, poppers and torpedo types.

good to know^

So is it safe to say mono is best for moving baits (power fishing) when the cover isn't serious enough for braid and when the fish aren't spooked enough to need fluro?

and for worm fishing, jig fishing and rigging fluro or braid with a leader is best?

Mono: topwaters, cranks

Braid: buzzbaits, finesse plastics and topwaters

FC: Jigs, spinnerbaits, chatters, everything else

Copoly: Cranks, swimbaits
