Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 9, 2015 Super User Posted February 9, 2015 Braid is a you get what you pay for usually kinda deal .. I'm not so sure about that anymore. I've used many of them and with most it's windknot galore. The 2-3 months I've been using a very inexpensive braid 10# almost exclusively with an inline spinner, so there is line twist. Not one single knot and have caught bass of all sizes, the line has been perfect so far. 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted February 9, 2015 Super User Posted February 9, 2015 What's your application going to be? Give it a whirl, who knows, you may like it quite nicely... Quote
FunkJishing Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 What's your application going to be? Give it a whirl, who knows, you may like it quite nicely... heavy cover worm and jig fishing, and yes I think I'll like it. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted February 9, 2015 Super User Posted February 9, 2015 I bought a spool about 2 years ago. Put it on a reel and went down to the river. In about 15 casts I threw off 3 lures that sailed across the river and landed on the opposite bank. I walked around to the other side and gathered up all 3 baits and the line broke in the middle (not at the knot) on all 3 lures. I went home and put different line on that same rod/reel and didn't have a single problem. So the problem had to have been the line. I've used some other Stren lines in the past and never had good results either, so I shy away from Stren now. Quote

I dont get how line could snap anywhere on the cast without it's flight through the air being stopped abruptlly. Even if it was I dont think the braid should have snapped though... maybe you got a bad spool. idk, I'll have to see with mine. Quote
nascar2428 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 This will be my third year using 30lb Stren Sonic Braid for my spinnerbait setup. Not one problem. I have found that as long as you keep the line packed tight you will have less problems. I have power pro on the rest of my setups, and as long as I repack the line, wind knots are kept to a minimum. 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 10, 2015 Super User Posted February 10, 2015 I get windknots because of the way I fish in freshwater. I may be throwing very light lures and I use a lot of popping motions that can create loops. When I'm using heavier lures windknots are rare. To my knowledge I've never owned braided line that was a disaster. Do my lines wrap around the tip, only if I've been tugging on a snag, normally operation , no. Have my lines broke in mid air, only if the line has been compromised, healthy lines breaking, probably as rare as me catching a 20# bass. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 10, 2015 Super User Posted February 10, 2015 Post some pics of what you catch using the braid. Quote
