So I'm looking to buy my would be great. first electronics for kayak fishing and with Bass Pro sale the 4X is $100 off. But is it worth the extra money and is there a huge difference from 3X to the 4X.Also thinking getting the 3X then more gear with the money saved from not buying 4X.Any info greatly appreciated. Are these units ready to go after purchase, is there a need to buy transducer as well.

I own the 4x and love it.  It comes with everything you need except the battery.  I have played with the 3x and it basically has everything my basic 4x has with a much smaller screen.  If it's truly your first fishfinder then I think it's a toss up.  Get what you can comfortably afford and learn how to use it.  :)

I have the 3x, if I could get the 4x for same price or even $20 more I would have. Bigger screen for us older guys.

I can still see everything on the 3x screen from 3' away.

Picked the 3x up a few months ago @ academy for $99. For my jon boat and kayak, it's enough for what I do.

Picked up a 3X tonight, I was wondering what size battery do you use

X2  I bought the 4X last Summer for my kayak and find it's everything I need.  Easy to use; good display; doesn't seem to draw much off my 24 amp/hr battery - it lasted most of the Summer on one charge.

it says 12v 7.5a/20hr

wildgame brand I bought from gander mountain. It lasts forever. Leave my unit on all day, and barely have to charge it.

If you have a battery store near you, they have tons...I went in one after I bought it at gander.

Don't forget to put a fuse on it.
