DangerRanger Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Hello all, New to the site and wow where have I been? Great info on here; I have looked for this post and can not find it anywhere. I need information on how to tune a bait. It is my understanding that if you toss a crankbait out it should come in a straight line to you. What do you do if it runs to the side? I know some people like to have them tuned to run left or right for fishing along the sides of docks which makes sense to me. Also what are your thoughts on using a quick snap for changing crank baits quickly? Does this interfere with the tuning or running of the bait......what size should you use in the snaps? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Quote
Cory20 Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Welcome to Bass Resource! If your crank is running to the right, turn the eye to left. If running to the left, turn the eye to the right. I don't use/haven't tried snaps on my cranks, I'm sure someone with more details will be along. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 22, 2008 Super User Posted February 22, 2008 WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some people swear by the snaps. I'm not one of themThe best advice I can give you , is to try them yourself and see how you like them. Quote
skillet Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Don't use crankbaits as much as a lot of folks but bending the eye a little bit at a time does work (or buy all Rapala ;D). Don't seem to have as much luck with trying to tune spinner baits . Hate to retie as much as the next guy but I always figured a snap was just one more thing that could break (don't use them). Also, WELCOME to the forums!!! As Ever, skillet Quote
ba7ss3in Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Welcome, I have not used snaps either but possible in the future. Try them if you don't like them ditch em. Quote
detroit1 Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 IMHO, remove the split ring and use a snap.(except for "sunken" line ties) I look at a split ring and see two sharp edges. Why would i tie my line that close to two sharp edges, instead of changing baits in 3 seconds? I have never had a snap break either.... Quote
HogHooker Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 Welcome to the forum, i either tie ring in the middle of the split ring where the wires over lap, or remove the split ring all together, i dont liek snaps, they are just to much hardware on the bait. Just like the old saying "keep it simple stupid" Quote

You can find oval spit rings for a dollar or two at barlows, jann's, etc. No chance to tie onto those sharp points with those. I'm going to try snaps this season. I've heard good things about these. I think they're rated at 75 lbs, but I could be making that up. Anyone try em? Quote
Biscuit Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 I have used the Norman snaps for years and still use them to this day. I have never had one fail on me yet. Just tie one on using a pallomar and you're in business. Quote
