Super User Catch and Grease Posted February 9, 2015 Super User Posted February 9, 2015 Had a weird weekend... Usually when the "cold" weather rolls around I give up on the thick stuff and start looking else where, well I went out and caught some decent fish in areas with really thick grass, pads, and trees... On top water frogs too! In the back of banks lake this is pretty much all you see for a good ways before it pretty much turns into swamp, great area for bass fishing! Can't wait to fish this spot again in the summer... 3 Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Heavy cover is the first thing I tackle in the cold. Top water frogs? What was the water temperature? In the fiftees I'm guessing? Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted February 9, 2015 Author Super User Posted February 9, 2015 Yeah somewhere In the upper fifties I'm guessing, the only reason I decided to try a frog for the heck of it was because I kept seeing fish striking everywhere.... Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 9, 2015 Super User Posted February 9, 2015 That place looks great, and I bet it looks better in the summer. Quote
ColdSVT Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Got lots of heavy cover here in PA...its clear and 12inches thick 6 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted February 9, 2015 Super User Posted February 9, 2015 Is this place on Earth ? I've never seen any place like it . 1 Quote
Penguino Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Even dead cover is good for bass. Most fish converge near dead plants because they store heat. Quote
paul. Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 glad you figured 'em out. that's good thinkin' right there. so many people overlook the shallow stuff in cold water. and if you already got water temps in the 50's, lots of big mamas gonna be spawnin' back there in about a month or so i bet. phenomenal lookin' spot. looks like it was taken right out of a bass fishing calendar. riverbasser13 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Nice photo. That's some good looking bass habitat right there. Does that stay flooded all year? Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted February 10, 2015 Author Super User Posted February 10, 2015 Nice photo. That's some good looking bass habitat right there. Does that stay flooded all year? Yup! There is a huge field of pads in the back of the lake year round, but during the summer its alot thicker. Did you catch any? Yeah, I only caught a couple on the frog but I got some more pitching a jig Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 3, 2015 Super User Posted March 3, 2015 Heavy cover? You aren't talking about the 3+ feet of snow on the ponds & lakes, are you? Quote
