Josh Smith Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I guess I'll toss in. I know for a fact that "Big Pharm" is indeed out to get you, monetarily. The best example I have of this is that I sometimes need an inhaler due to allergies. This certain inhaler, albuterol, was generic years back. Cost like $5. Albuterol is an older medicine and the patent is expired. When the government banned CFCs, they were going to make an exception for medications. Know what? The pharmaceutical companies lobbied against this exemption. Why? Well, they could patent the delivery systems that no longer use CFCs. The albuterol is the very same inexpensive stuff it always was. The delivery system is the $55 item! Likewise, the one OTC rescue inhaler on which many folks relied is gone due to the inability (or simple lack of desire) to develop a CFC-free inhaler. For folks like me, well, the $60 is friggin' annoying because I know how it came about. For the less-fortunate, this is a real hit on the chin. As far as vaccines go, it really depends. Of course, polio, small pox, measles, mumps, rubella, and any number of other things that probably will kill or seriously injure for life the victim should be vaccinated against. On the other hand, I have serious doubts about the chicken pox and flu vaccines for the average healthy person. It's possible to become dependent upon vaccines instead of building immune systems. I believe that vaccines are not particularly damaging (or, not so far as is known) because the government and pharmaceutical companies have vested interests in keeping their meal tickets alive and healthy enough to work. Yes, I'm jaded like that. Regards, Josh Quote

Super User .ghoti. Posted February 9, 2015 Super User Posted February 9, 2015 I had a friend whose children were not vaccinated for anything. His wife was/is a vegan. One of those obnoxious types who can't wait to tell you what an evil bastage you are for eating meat. she believed a meat free diet would put her kids in harmony with nature and render vaccination unnecessary. I said I HAD a friend. He stopped considering me a friend after I told him his wife was a %@#^ing moron who should be chained up and not allowed out into the real world. I also offered to take him to a local clinic for vaccinations for his kids. All he had to do was find his testicles, get his kids, and get in the car. 2 Quote
Djf3864 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I am on the vaccine side of the fence. I am fully vaccinated both for the major diseases we get here in the US, but also for all those wonderful diseases you can get overseas. I think that there is a point when enough is enough with medicine and what they are trying to do with it, but it is a very personal decision that people need to make. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 9, 2015 Super User Posted February 9, 2015 After hearing Terry Bradshaw's story, I recently got my shot. I had the flu in 1972 and have had a shot every year since. Children should be protected with every vaccination available. The rest of you should, too. Quote

I've been thinking of the shingles vaccination too, both my daughter and sil had it, it was not fun for them. Quote
nick76 Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Ok, after reading this whole thread I am going to go out on a limb and say something completely unpopular here. Let me start by saying that I am not anti-vaccination, but I have some serious questions in regards to how they are delivered and when they are delivered. My experience is that of a father who had a child get a combo vaccine to start public school at age 4 and he ended up having a severe reaction to it. It could have very well killed him, but we were reassured by our local physician and the CDC that this was a rare occurrence and that vaccine was safe. 18 months later we took our youngest daughter in for her combo vaccine and when we inquired about which one she was getting our physician said that the one our son had was pulled by the CDC because too many kids were having reactions. RED FLAG!! After a ton of research and listening to medical professionals my wife and I have decided that our children will no longer be vaccinated until they are closer to being teenagers or unless we travel outside the country. Let me post some links to a few of the many articles I have on vaccines. Please take time to read them and educate yourself. I can go on and on for hours on this subject and yes I have been called an idiot many times and even stupid (my education begs to differ). Again, I am not anti-vaccination, but I am against the current protocols and delivery methods. I am not hoping to switch you to the "darkside", but I am hoping to give information that is not only opinion but also scientific. http://www.vaccinationcouncil.org/2012/07/05/herd-immunity-the-flawed-science-and-failures-of-mass-vaccination-suzanne-humphries-md-3/ http://www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/herd-immunity-myth-or-reality http://vaccineimpact.com/2015/arizona-cardiologist-responds-to-critics-regarding-measles-and-vaccines/ 1 Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted February 10, 2015 Super User Posted February 10, 2015 Nick76 I respect your willingness to give what you know will be an unpopular view point. I also respect your commitment to doing the right thing based on an intelligent assessment of the facts as you know them. As I said in an earlier post this matter won't be decided here. We can't even all agree on catch and release! 1 Quote
