BIGGUNZ Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I supertuned my 200E7 last year, when I recently disassembled the reel I noticed it looked very ( dry) maybe not enough grease or oil. I want to make sure I do it right this time. What do I grease and what do I oil? Quote
BobP Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I oil all bearings, the level wind worm gear, and the brake drum. Everything else that slides or rubs against something else is greased. You don't want grease on anything that touches or rubs against anything on the spool or its axle. If you use Superlube grease on your gears, they look dry after awhile due to the white color of the grease and the conservative amount of grease you should be using. Once you get a light application of grease down into the teeth of the main and pinion gear, that's enough. I use a small stiff brush to paint the grease into the teeth. A reel with grease piled up in various places inside the case is over-lubricated. That gunk is lubricating nothing. Quote
fishinphilly Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 tacklejunky81 on youtube can help you with that Quote
papajoe222 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Don't get caught up in the mentality that more is better. A thin coat of grease on the gears and clutch and a drop of oil or two on the beariings and level wind are all that is necessary. Both oil and grease will attract dirt. The more there is, the more dirt that's attracted. Just be sure to remove the old before adding the new, kind of like changing your car's oil. Quote

OnthePotomac Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 You will find many anglers pack their pinion gear in grease and some like the drive shaft bearing in grease (if your reel has one on the drive shaft). I use grease on my pinion gear and ReelX on my drive shaft bearing and worm gear. I am currently experimenting with TSI 301 dipped pinion bearings. I only fish the tidal Potomac. Quote
