Ronnie Lyle Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I own a 2008 bass tracker and I have always fished in freshwater, but I am now living on the gulf coast and would like to do some fishing in saltwater, just wondering if saltwater would damage the boat or trailer. Quote
zachb34 Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Salt water and carpet don't mix very well. If you do take it in salt the motor needs to be flushed afterwards. Either hook it up to a hose/muffs at home and idle it for awhile or take it to a lake after and put around a bit. I would also just give the boat and trailer a quick rinse after just to be on the safe side. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted February 8, 2015 Super User Posted February 8, 2015 If your trailer is anything but aluminum it's going to deteriorate. Rinse/flush the motor. You may need an additional sacrificial anode attached to the hull. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted February 8, 2015 Super User Posted February 8, 2015 Quick tip I learned a while back to help with the trailer - after your trip, hook up a yard sprinkler on throw it under the boat and let it run for a while, moving it slightly every now and then! Jeff Quote
martintheduck Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 It's already been said --- saltwater and the carpet aren't going to mix well. Also, that trailer is going to get screwed pretty good if you don't rinse it SUPER well after each trip. As for the motor, we've always flushed motors with freshwater after fishing in the gulf.... even "saltwater" engines... still run a good 5-10 minute flush through them afterwards. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted February 9, 2015 Super User Posted February 9, 2015 I would advise against it, especially how the tracker trailers are made. They're a boxed frame which will let water in and not allow you to rinse it out very well. Tie that in with the fact that it's unpainted on the inside, and it'll start rusting in no time. As for the rest, others have already stated. Quote
Trent Wilson Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 We had some frames come through about 3 months ago. Had been saltwater used and none were made before 09. They were powder coated and when we started cutting them up for scrap, they were paint dipped. Don't know if this was an option or an after thought for the previous owners. No damage other than the fact that they had been in a wreck. Quote
