*Hank Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 How does this rod preform? looking at the 7ft. med as an all around crankbait rod, Thanks for any replies! Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I used to own the 6'6" medium for creek fishing. Good rod for shakey heads. Kinda stiff for treble hooks. Maybe the 7' has a little more give to it. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted February 7, 2015 Super User Posted February 7, 2015 I've always felt that my Falcons have a decent parabolic bend and should do fairly well with treble hooks. Give it a shot. I'll have to take a few shallow running crankbaits with me when visiting Florida this year and give them a try on my 7' M Original. My rod stays there as it would be cost prohibitive to ship rods back and forth every year. Quote
*Hank Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 Has anyone used the st croix Mojo bass in the 7ft med hvy cranking model or any other rods that would be a better choice in that price range as a cranking rod? Quote
robster80 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 try a powell diesel or the lamiglas excel 2 thats on sale at TW. i just picked up the lamiglas myself and cant wait to try it Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted February 7, 2015 Super User Posted February 7, 2015 I can't speak on the original but I had a bucoo 7' med/mod and anything heavier than a 1.5 square bill made it feel like it was gonna snap. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 7, 2015 Super User Posted February 7, 2015 The 7' Falcon original in a medium is what they call the "Mansfield" , be careful with this rod as you are going to be able to effectively fish from 1/4oz to 3/8oz, maybe 7/16oz and 1/2oz is going to tough. Every falcon I got to use has been spot of and crankbaits always run a bit heavy and anything over 1/2oz is going to be heavy for that rod. You would be better served by the new Jason Christie series 7' rated 1/4oz to 3/4oz because it is a moderate rod and like I said, Falcon rods are spot on with their lure weights, other manufactures you can fish a bait that is a little over what is recommended, not Falcon, if it is rated to 1/2oz, it isn't a hair over and you can feel it, as Rippin-lips has already said, anything over a 1.5 makes the rod feel as if it going to snap and that is when you know you are at the limit of the rod. 1 Quote
GaterB Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I've had my Falcon Original 7' medium for 6 years now. It will do well for small to medium sized crankbaits, and you will not be able to hurt it. Good parabolic bend, very soft tip. Will balance well with pretty much any reel because of the full cork handle. 1 Quote
thirtysixit Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I'm also on the market for a Mansfield Falcon Original. My favorite bait is the Norman Deep lil N. Any thoughts on a 3/8oz medium runner and this rod's performance? Thanks! Quote
