dmack Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 So I'm close to ready to start assembly of my own jigs. Got my silicone skirt material from fishingskirts.com and the jigs are on order from Sieberts. I read about flat living rubber. Fishing skirts doesn't carry living rubber. There is a livingrubber.com site but all there stuff is round. From the reading I've done it seems the flat is better. Can anyone tell me where they get their flat living rubber? Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted February 6, 2015 Super User Posted February 6, 2015 Flat isn't better ... just different. Maybe I am confused ... Fishing Skirts does sell flat rubber skirt material. http://fishingskirts.com/fishing-skirts-categories/rubber-skirt-making-material Living image stuff is round and they also sell that http://fishingskirts.com/fishing-skirts-categories/skirt-making-material/living-image I have yet to see Flat Living Image stuff yet. I tend to use the flat as an accent. 1 Quote

Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 6, 2015 Super User Posted February 6, 2015 Living rubber is round and it has to be separated by pulling it to create tension and then slowly cutting while under tension to release the legs. Flat line rubber comes similar to silicone tabs and there are pros and cons to each and a use for each. I'll make a list here that may help you make jigs. PROS Silicone - Has nice action and presents a full profile with endless colors that is made with textures and in fine cut. it can be used by itself or in conjunction with rubber, easy to use. Living Rubber - Very Buoyant with a distinct action and is now made with a printed pattern and can be used in conjunction with silicone Flat Line Rubber - Buoyant with a slow action, creates a large profile and displaces water and is usually used alone with less strands than thinner skirt material. Cons Silicone - Separates slower with less buoyancy and action than rubber when it is in the water. Living rubber - It is more difficult to work with, especially for beginners, only basic colors available, and can melt or clump together if stored improperly. Flat Line Rubber - Same as living rubber but it is easier to work with but is prone to being cut easier when being tied with thread. 2 Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Forget the flat line rubber. Get some bio silk from lure parts online. It is just like silicon with the buoyancy of rubber. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted February 8, 2015 Super User Posted February 8, 2015 That quit making the flat living rubber material years ago. That stuff they call flat rubber that comes in tabs is the worst stuff I have ever used for jigs. Allen Quote
