Super User rippin-lips Posted February 6, 2015 Super User Posted February 6, 2015 Surprised I haven't seen this topic yet or maybe I just missed it. The Ehrler beatdown was a good watch. I'm shocked that KVD didn't make the cut after his elimination round clinic that he put on. Can't wait to see the final. Thoughts? Quote
brgbassmaster Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I watched a couple episodes of this round in maine and there lame. They been going out and catching 50 1lbers so boring to watch. They need to go back to my home state of Michigan and at least catch 4-5lbers again. Even texas and florida couldn't match that. MLF is kinda boring when you watching them catch 13oz to 2lbers lol. nascar2428 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I love the format, can't wait to watch it on Sunday. Quote

I totally agree 100 % it is boring watching them catch a bunch of 12 inchers. I fish in Maine a lot. With the format they use it forces them to target all the 1 lb dinkers. There are plenty of big fish in Maine, especially in the waters they are fishing. I would like to see them target the bigger fish. If the largest 5 fish weight were what won the MLF tournaments then you would be seeing 5 fish limits of 20-25 lbs winning or bigger. That is what it takes during all the local open tournaments. It is a shame that this show is giving viewers the opinion there are only small fish in Maine. At some point while MLF was fishing in Maine one of them caught a largemouth over 7 lbs. Quote
Smokinal Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 It is a shame that this show is giving viewers the opinion there are only small fish in Maine. You and I know that there are only small fish in Maine...move along, nothing to see here 2 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted February 6, 2015 Author Super User Posted February 6, 2015 Granted it can be a little boring but I enjoy it still. I'm willing to beat most of us couldn't get it figured out like they do. Quote

Klebs01 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I like the format a lot better than normal tournaments. The live updates are a big improvement and it is better seeing the stress it places on the participants. I don't like the 5 bass format because a person that cought 4 4 pounders and a 4.5 pounder didn't have a better day than the person that cought 20 4 pounders. Quote
NJBasstard Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I like seeing big bass as much as the next guy but I also prefer the MLF format over the others. It shows which anglers are able to key in on a pattern and adapt to fish it more effectively than the next guy. Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I think MLF is 100% better than B.A.S.S. tournaments on ESPN and 500% better than FLW tournaments on TV too. A couple of reasons I like MLF so much - I see pros struggle just like me and I see them catch small bass just like me. If all they do is show them catching big bass after big bass and yanking on their rods over and over again I would probably not watch it. I like MLF so much I'm thinking of buying their DVDs tournaments. Quote
massrob Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Mlf is definitely the most exciting fishing I've ever watched that scoretracker live changes everything. The way some guys fish for regular tournaments would get them sent home immediately. The best part of it is I'm definitely going to those lakes next year. Quote

It's a nice wake up call to know that even they can really struggle. 1 Quote
nascar2428 Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Best tournament format on the planet. IMO Quote
ItsTig Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 The free preview on YouTube did MLF no favors or justice. It was probably 5 minutes of fishing and 13 minutes of talking. Terrible free preview, would never make anyone want to watch. However, I caught the final this morning on CBS and thought it was awesome. I like the format of counting every fish. I disagree with people who say all the small fish are boring, but MLF could always increase the length of scorable fish if it became a big problem. IMO it humanizes the pros more when you get to see all their catches and struggles out there in this format, they're just like us(kind of :] ). Suggs was shaking out on the water, and it reminded me how I've felt the few times I've had a good fish on. They could make some tweaks for sure, but overall I like what they're doing with MLF. Hope it will be on CBS more. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted February 9, 2015 Super User Posted February 9, 2015 How much did Suggs win? We watched this at work and people asked me how much but I have no idea dont follow MLF. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted February 9, 2015 Super User Posted February 9, 2015 MLF reflects the realities of tournament angling better than Bass and FLW does. At least it does to me. So because of that I enjoy it way better. I can relate to it more. One little nugget I enjoy is hearing them dig on each other as they hear the scoreboard updates. Aaron Martens seemed to be on a roll with his commentary about Defoe, KVD and such. Funny to watch. 1 Quote

Aaron Martens seemed to be on a roll with his commentary about Defoe, KVD and such. Funny to watch. completely agree. i think it's a big difference with watching 6 anglers really have to struggle to find fish. in flw or bass they have 50 or so anglers to pick from so any given tournament they can follow about 10 guys that are really catching fish.... my favorite part is watching what they all start the day with. it's cool to see some start with a buzzbait, pencil style bait, crankbait and even AMart starts off with a dropshot at times (then proceeds to complain about how much he hates fishing a drop shot). i enjoy the comments from all the anglers too and you can see some of them really get their heads messed up paying attention to the score tracker. i watched one or two and then immediately had it in the rotation on my DVR. only downside is the pretty lame and cheesy commentary from the "hosts" or whatever you call them. they could cut all that out and not miss a beat on the show. Super User Felix77 Posted February 9, 2015 Super User Posted February 9, 2015 AMart starts off with a dropshot at times (then proceeds to complain about how much he hates fishing a drop shot). I was surprised by this but then his very next statement was "it's so d**n effective". Very difficult to tell if he was being sarcastic. He is my Dropshot idol. Did you catch when he was talking about KVD toward the end. Stating how well he knows him and how sure he was that KVD was freaking out. On cue KVD goes flying across the lake and he chuckles. Very, very entertaining ... so funny to watch. 1 Quote
FunkJishing Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I think the format is great, makes things a little more interesting. the lead can be stolen at any point, i like the twists and turns. Quote

Very, very entertaining ... so funny to watch. thats the reason i like it. shows you the mental game those guys play as well as just trying to catch fish. all anglers were speculating on what the other guys were doing, and a lot of them were dead on. i just think it plays out a lot more like reality and not so much like "reality tv". 2 Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 MLF is really the only fishing tournament program on TV that I have a desire to rewatch over a few times. hoosierbass07 Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I don't know what kind of ratings MLF is getting on the Outdoor Channel and CBS, but from general responses I've been reading on forums and my own opinion, MLF is a pretty darn good program. I assume some of the producers/executives/participants scan forums like this one and to read opinions on MLF. I wonder if they have bigger plans for MLF in the future. I would pay a good amount of money to see GoPro footage from KVD for the whole day. He had one strapped to his chest. Yeah, I would pay $30 or $40 to see that all day footage. Quote
Biggz53 Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I don't think anyone was really getting on the format, it's the most innovative style to come out in the last 50 years. Everyone likes to see the ups and downs, but knowing the how good the fishing in that area can be, the show is not doing it any justice, which makes for some boring television when you know what's out there. One of the previous commenters brought it up but Timmy Horton taped a show up there and caught some monster LM, including a 7. Of course it's reassuring to see Pros struggle as much as some of us do, but more than anything I want to see what puts them on a winning pattern. Unless some of your clubs are buying what MLF is selling I certainly haven't found any trails using their format yet. Quote
