sarcazmo Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 This is less money than a GL2 which means the blank with feel dull and it will be heavy and whan I say heavy I mean in the same class the GL2 is in which is heavy for the price range. Perhaps this rod is their answer to many of the criticisms leveled @ their GL2 series of rod? If it can deliver in that price point it will be a great thing. Healthy competition is always a win for us as consumers. Quote

I'm hearing and reading from guys who have fished them and usually are respectable guys. They are saying you'll be pleasantly surprised. So hopefully they did! Quote

Did you ever think that the blank might be something special in it's price range? I think G Loomis might be going after a segment of the market that they have not been overly successful in the past. Its a new product give it a chance before you poo poo it. That's what I'm hoping. There's nothing stopping them from making a good rod for a good price, they've probably gotten a lot of bad feedback from the gl2's. Specs and pics are up on G Loomis' website. Quote

They are owned by Shimano but are a separate division of the parent company. TT has a preview of the new rods on their site. They've had a chance to fish the rods already. I am definitely intrigued, it sounds like a good rod at a reasonable price. Quote

I think the problem most people had was that they looked and felt like a caenan painted green. Not bad reels, just didn't meet the standards of the curado guys. Quote

I never owned one but handled multiple models in the store with reels and they felt like decent quality rods. Think the price should've been around $140-150. Quote

I use it as my spinnerbait rod, I wouldn't use it as my jigs/plastics rod though. Too heavy. I will occassionally pitch with it in sparse/moderate cover. (893C) Quote

Are you talking new models or old? I find it funny because the GL2, while not a bad rod, it isn't close to being worth the price tag. The reason we say this is because the rod is considerably heavier than most rods in its price range and it uses standard aluminum oxide guides, perfectly fine for bass fishing but most rods in the $100 dollar range use better. I like the handle on the new models and I will also say that I'm a fan of the GL3 and with the price being so close to a GL3, it is a no-brainer to get the 3 unless the look of the new GL2 is what you want in a rod and I can see that but not over a GLX, sorry. If the new GL2 were in the $115 to $125 range, I'd consider it a good rod in that range, heavier than I care for but still ok but not at $200 when there are so many in the $150 to $180 range that are really good rods and much better but again, it all comes down to what you like, so let me in, what is it about the GL2 that you like even more than a GLX? carlm01 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I have a glx 805c that I use for small swimbaits and I use the GL2 804 for top water I feel very little difference in weight between them . I do like the gl3's but enjoy the split handles on the 2's and and the glx better.. As for weight ?? I have them paired with Lews reels nothing weighing over 6,5 oz several are the LFS series and weight about 5.4oz ...... I guess it just comes down to what you like,, I did get some deals on them but nothing insane as they were all new. I am sure there are better and lighter rods out there . But will stick with these .... Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted February 7, 2015 Super User Posted February 7, 2015 I've had the imx and gl3 rods, they also had aluminum oxide inserts, I got no problem with with these inserts, the frames can be bigger, and made of different materials, that has a bearing on the weight I believe, my imx had much smaller frames than do my gl2's Quote

I can't imagine the GL2's hanging around long if these E6X's are as good as they are advertised. Quote
