Super User Dwight Hottle Posted February 3, 2015 Super User Posted February 3, 2015 Pennsylvania has some really big black bears including the pending world record but I never expected this size bear in Florida. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/breaking-news/os-biggest-florida-bear-killed-20150121-story.html Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 3, 2015 Super User Posted February 3, 2015 Although I am not at all opposed to killing the bears that become a public nuisance, this particular bear would make a grand addition to a public zoo. Seems like a wasted opportunity to me. 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted February 3, 2015 Super User Posted February 3, 2015 Wow, I never saw a bear when I lived there, but I was aware of them being around. The thing that made me a bit nervous was black panthers... Not even gators, nor rattlesnakes created a fear in me, but the panther, a little. Hats off to Florida for putting people first over this beast of a bear. Quote

Seems like a wasted opportunity to me. Im with you and similar to bass fishing.. if we catch and kill all the big bass there isnt gonna be much left for others to catch and see and enjoy.. One less 700lb black bear in the south for folks to see and enjoy .. hopefully from a distance Quote

GLADES Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I saw a couple of bears dead along the side of roads in central florida, probably in the 400lb range. Nothing that big. I agree that the bear should not have been killed. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted February 4, 2015 Super User Posted February 4, 2015 INCREDIBLE! Now at least, I know what that loud 'Woofing' was in my backyard. Roger Quote

atcoha Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Ironic, I heard on the local news this morning, they are thinking about opening up bear hunting here in Florida. Quote
Chief 2 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 They need to open up bear hunting. The black bear problem is starting to get out of control. They are constantly in the area I live in and damaging stuff. Many are also killed on the road. I think the best thing they could do is start a lottery like they do with gator hunting allowing only so many hunters to participate. Quote
