carlm01 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Hi guys looking for opinions on what you would use for small swimbaits ? or what qualities you'd look for ? And remember for small swimbaits .... Thanks Quote
DTack Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 For baits of that size I recently got my hands on the Daiwa Tatula HD. This reel is awesome in my hands so far. The drag is strong and smooth, has a good line capacity for a low profile reel and is comfortable in my hand being low profile. For this size I wouldn't want to deal with a round reel personally... it is just under what I would reserve those for. I like the little bit faster reel than what you can get with the 300 and 400 (Shimano size reference) round reels. These extra capacity low profile reels are great for the size baits you've listed. Hope this helps a bit I can give more detail if you'd like. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted February 3, 2015 Super User Posted February 3, 2015 I find the round shimano reels, in 200 size quite easy to palm.. I sure do like them.. Plus, they have plenty of strength, a slower ipt, 2oz rigs are easy for it as well. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted February 3, 2015 Super User Posted February 3, 2015 Abu 4600 series on a m/h 7' rodwith a mod action Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 3, 2015 Super User Posted February 3, 2015 The Curado 300 E is great for bigger baits. The Revo Beast would be another options. 1 Quote
SDbassin Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 super duty would be another good option 2 Quote
Super User Angry John Posted February 4, 2015 Super User Posted February 4, 2015 A regular reel would do just fine in that weight range. A daiwa advantage htsl or zillion or tatula all would be fine. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 4, 2015 Global Moderator Posted February 4, 2015 I use a Curado 200B for baits in that size. Don't really need anything very specialized to fish the smaller ones. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted February 4, 2015 Super User Posted February 4, 2015 A Lew's come to mind like the BB1. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted February 4, 2015 Super User Posted February 4, 2015 Any 200 size is fine. Quote
HookdUP Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I initially use a revo winch as my swimbait reel ... I liked it and just upped from there but most 200 sized reels will do the job ... The 300 sized reels will do it better at the expense of weight Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted February 5, 2015 Super User Posted February 5, 2015 The 200 series Calcutta DC is the bee's knees. Quote
livetofish28 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I chuck a savage gear 8 inch trout on a lews super duty and that's 3+ ozs and you still have a reel capable of being used with other techniques Tight lines Andrew 1 Quote
