I don't know if winter blues actually causes this for other fishermen but it sure does with me. Here in Michigan we got over a foot of snow and it was blowing 25 mph. That's depressing. So, I look at fishing articles and catalogs trying to take my mind off the outside. Then I realize I really like these frogs, and maybe I should do some more deep cranking this summer too. Well, last night I only ended up buying a bunch of Nichols spinnerbaits.  My wife asked why so many? I  just feel a lot better knowing that I have a back up to a pike, tree, or not paying attention when cutting the tag line. Whatever gets me through this winter i guess. At least I'm creating a phantom gmail account to register my rods anymore. lol

I would agree, while in Minnesota we haven't seen the snow as we have in the past, or even the cold as much. Minnesota is still ice bound for another couple of months.

I have spent more this month than I do generally in a year. I get bored, go on YouTube and watch unboxing videos, and read articles. And I than proclaim "I MUST HAVE THAT!"

The only reason I haven't put in another order is because I am waiting for LTB, FH and a back order that will have my BBZ Rat in it. I'm hoping that this will tie me over and make it do I DON'T put in the $150 order I have up on my web browser.

But the bait monkey gets what the bait monkey wants, and that is the satisfaction of buying tackle. Wether you justify the purchase as a need stock up, or a "must have".the vicious cycle continues.

I believe there is a whole thread dedicated to this,

http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/147176-latest-tackle-purchase-thread-bait-monkey-victim-support-group/

But yes I do the same and have been all winter. I have 46 days left and have no plans on stopping now hahaha

I think the allure of the lure is what keeps us non-southern guys going. Otherwise we'd lose our minds when it's Easter and we get an inch of snow. :(

It definitely happens to other fishermen. Winter makes the bait monkey go crazy!

Yeah it's been since October since I bought anything and I'm going a little nuts.  My very small temporary relief will be coming this weekend when I hit BPS during the Spring Fishing Classic sale.

The bait monkey has always been my worst enemy. Usually, I tell myself that I would rather buy all the line/lures/accessories during the winter so then in the summer not only am I ready to go but I also am not spending money on tackle each week- just gas for the boat. It makes me feel better, like I am fishing for free.

Last year I got my first bait caster, this winter I got 4 new baitcasting combos and enough soft plastics to fill a three drawer filing cabinet. The filing cabinet is for the "extra" baits that I can't fit in my Ranger. Cannot wait for open water to try out those moneymakers from Berkley.

I just bought 7 spinner baits in various sizes and colors (mostly chartreuse, fire tiger, and bleeding shad).

I don't even need any more spinners. They were just on sale......

The monkey got me good this year, by starting off getting a kayak then I had some custom jerk baits made for me. And this weekend waiting on my order of *** jigs to come in.

Is it winter? I don't even know. I look outside, shiver and head to my man cave. I haven't been outside since I put my boat away in Nov. My wife picks up a bottle of sippin whiskey and a box of cigars once a week and I usually run out before her next trip.  I have a 2 week trip to Guntersville scheduled for late March but my liver and lungs may be done by then. I have an order in waiting (have to push the order button) at BPS, Cabellas, Tackle Warehouse, Sebert  Outdoors, and GYBC. However my wife of 45 years, reminded me the taxes and insurance are due on our home and cottage. What a spoilsport. I guess I'll just hang on BR and Lake-Link and abuse my body until the water gets soft. Then, I will abuse my body until the water gets hard again. What a cycle we bassfisherguys live through. I really, really caught a bass once.  I think.
