Line Conditioner

Just wanting guy opinions on line conditioner. Do you guys use it a if so do you feel like it really makes a difference? Ive got a bottle of KVD line conditioner and also the Real Magic. Have never used the Real Magic on my line yet. Whats your guys thoughts?

I would stay away from Reel Magic. From what i've heard Reel Magic actualy breaks down the line instead of protecting it. Besides KVD line and lure is the best conditioner out there and it is cheaper than Reel Magic.

 

And yes it does make a huge difference with KVD Line and lure i've had fluoro last an entire year on my reel before needing it to be changed where as I was changing it monthly.

used em both. KVD is the bomb. it bonds with the line and leaves no residue. the best for fluorocarbon. reel magic is a silicon spray that will work but doesn't last and can gum up a reel. it does work well on silicon skirts on lures and various rubber parts on your boat.

FYI, do not ever use Ardent line butter. it is the worst

Yeah the only thing i have used the Real Magic for is cleaning my rod and rod guides. I have never used the ardent line butter and will take your advice. I use the ardent oil and reel butter for when i do my winter maintenance on my reels but have been considering changing to the Quantum hot sauce and grease.

I've used both and the KVD really works wonders on fluorocarbon.  I wasn't a big fan of the Reel Magic because it is not meant to be used on fluorocarbon.

Where did you get this information? If you seen it on the can, the no florocarbons means- No CFC's in the propellent. Brian.

Another vote for KVD. Gave up on Reel Magic a couple of years ago. Seemed to gum up the roller guide on the bails of my spinning reels. I'm wondering if it (KVD) is of any value with braids or fused lines though?

I've sprayed it on my braid and did not see/notice any difference, just to test it out.  I do wonder if it works on super slick PP though.  Never tested on the coated braided lines.  I don't buy super slick, so can't comment there.  It might help or not.

I have both, obviously I love KVD better but Magic still works fine in my opinion, never gummed up any of my gear and as far as people saying magic breaks down your line? Not true, I tested this theory out with mono, fluoro and Yozuri, line for the entire season being fished hard and using reel magic, none of the lines I used it on caused my line to breakdown or weaken. That said, I sill like Kvd better, Reel magic is just a second choice/backup that I have laying around, also use it to clean lures/rods/reels etc...

I use them both, over the past few years I've used the KVD stuff more.   Be mindful in your winter storage, that the KVD stuff, being water based, will freeze.   If it is a full bottle, it could crack the plastic bottle.  The first time I got out last year, there was an ice cube floating around in the bottle of KVD line treatment.  In my case, the bottle didn't crack, but had it been a full bottle, it might have.

Line & Lure is a special polymer blend that becomes part of the fishing line it is applied to. Other line treatments you find on the market are primarily silicone oil and solvents. Silicone oil only temporarily coats the line and solvents can damage line. Silicone oil rapidly comes off the line (on your hands and in the water), requiring re-treatment of the line after just a few casts.

The special polymers in Line & Lure are hydrophobic (water repelling) and very slippery. It doesn't allow water to draw back on to the reel spool, which eliminates the line drag that a "wet" spool has. It also protects the line from wearing out as quickly as un-treated line because it resists the abrasion that wears line out.  It contains no oils or solvents as in Reel Magic that can build up and collect dirt like silicone/oil treatments will.
