Catch 22 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Long ,long ago I entered 3 Ray Scott BASS invitational tourneys. 1977 Virgiana Lake Anna-also ran 1978 New York Thousands Islands placed 35 th of 300 1979 New York Thousands Islands -also ran. I entered one other t on Seneca Lake ,NY.A good friend called to tell I would probably die because of extreme wind water that time of year.I dropped out of it and half the boats could not make it back to weight in because of bad water. My bud was right. $300 entry fees good payout for the times.I purchased A new Hydra Sport/150 Evinrude with Merc thruster t motor for $8500. Ha, can`t even get a motor for that now. Marginal depth finders, braid wasn`t invented yet like many more things we now take for granted. We stayed right next door to Hank Parker at the North Star motel,Alexandria Bay ,NY in 78. Tom Mann got arrested in Ontario for out of season fishing.Dee Thomas was perfecting his flipping method.Jimmy Houston had perfected his wrist twisting shot gun cast.Rick Clunn got close to hitting my boat at 65mph when he passed me.Roland Martin was so far ahead of the field on the 3rd day,he was spotted sitting down eating lunch at 11 am.A last minute court order prevented the first ever female for participating the t. Can`t recall the fellow that oversaw the t`s for Scott==Harold Sharp, maybe, the warden if you will. I met lots of the current heros and rising stars of the fishing world and feel I got my monies worth. I fished many Redman t`s that used to pay well.Kinda got away from the t`s to raise a family ,build a house ect. I`ll bet there are some others here that fished BASS t`s maybe even to oppose me. Who are you? C22 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 2, 2015 Global Moderator Posted February 2, 2015 I fished the BASS weekend series for one season as a non-boater. Hated their rule that the non-boater got the boaters weight added to their total?? Made no sense to me and cost me a win at LOZ, ended up in 5th because my boater only put 3 keepers in the boat. Made it to the regional at Patoka in Indiana, if I never see that lake again I could die happy. I caught 3 bass in 2 days, 1 keeper, missed the cut by about a pound. 10 pounds won the non-boater side over 3 days of fishing, the guy caught 2 5 pounders, only 2 fish he caught in 3 days. 1 Quote

Catch 22 Posted February 14, 2015 Author Posted February 14, 2015 Yeah,I had a green box too. Can`t remember how many Super Sixties I went thru. Spent a ton on the X15 paper unit. I had some of the first Lews Speed Sticks ever made. I used to suffer the slow retrieve on Left handed Ambassaduers. Then buzz gears for them came on the market..I bet I could still find a few in my junk. C22 Quote
