Mudrider34 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I want to broaden the tools at my disposal. I don't fish with jigs or spinnerbaits and I see on here a lot that those are go to baits. What would be good ones to start with? I go to the tackle shop and it's so overwhelming with the colors, styles ect. Most if the water I fish is stained and murky water. Not sure on colors either so that would help as well thanks guys for helping a new guy to the sport! Quote
Super User Angry John Posted February 2, 2015 Super User Posted February 2, 2015 Don't go shopping. Figure out what works and make a list of exactly what you want. Stick with the basics at first. Get some brown, green pumpkin and a few black blue. Gerald swindle would say those are the only colors you will ever need. One or two head styles and two weights and you should be good to go. I would go with an arkey as one. Good luck. Serbertoutdoors.com will get you all setup Quote
hawghound Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I have found that chartreuse works pretty well in murky water, I suggest you start there. Also use Colorado blades to make more vibration and help the bass find it. I have also had some luck with black/red also with Colorado blades. Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Jigs: green pumpkin, brown, or one that matches the colors of the crayfish where you fish. If you fish a lot of stained water, I'd look at black and blue. Arky heads are the most versatile and are probably my favorite head. Yamamoto twin tail trailers are probably my favorite trailers. Spinnerbaits: White is about all I throw in clear water with double willow blades. I throw War Eagles and that's about it as far as brands. They have thin diameter wires and just seem to get bit more. But since the swimjig and the chatterbait have came out, I hardly throw spinnerbaits like I used to. Both get me bigger and more bites than a spinnerbait. Indiana blades are what I use in stained water. Throw these types of baits in he thickest cover you can get them through. If your fishing them around or near cover and not in it or through it. You will be missing out. Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted February 2, 2015 Super User Posted February 2, 2015 Stained water calls for a big thumper Colorado blade bait! Black/blue w/black blade is a good option. I like the Hart Double Wire bait as wellm Quote

LunkercityVB Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Get you a couple black and blue 3/8-1/2 oz football jigs and maybe the same in green pumpkin, match the trailers with the color jig and get something with a lot of movement. I fish jigs all year long and its definately the most versatile bait out there. Spinnerbaits i usually use something shad colored with one willow and one colorado blade (dont know why it just works for me) war eagle makes awesome spinnerbaits. Quote

The Mike McClelland Finesse Spinnerbait with the leading Oklahoma and trailing Colorado is my favorite spinnerbait. Quote
