guitarkid Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 How do I make A crankbait hook harness? and what do i make it out of? Quote
Super User Munkin Posted February 3, 2008 Super User Posted February 3, 2008 Are you talking about the hook hangers? All the crankbaits I have seen either have screw in eyelets or whats called thru wire which is a single piece of wire. Allen Quote
ernel Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 The "harness" you are refering to is the through wire method that Munkin rerefered to. You can also use a basswood balsa laminate that will hold a homemade hook hanger made from a piece of stainless that is twisted into shape. The basswood acts as the "spine" so to speak. Eric Quote
BIG M Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 If you are making bass cranks, forget about the thru wire harness. Get some 19 gage stainless steel wire and twist your own line ties and hangers. Pre drill a hole and glue in with 5 min epoxy. Those will not come out. Quote
guitarkid Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 Thanks for the posts, I was completely lost in trying to make my own stuff. Quote

If you're dealing with bigger fish (like muskies) you might want to go with a wire-through. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted February 4, 2008 Super User Posted February 4, 2008 I have been using thru wire on my crankbaits because it is just easier but mine are not made of wood. Allen Quote
guitarkid Posted February 4, 2008 Author Posted February 4, 2008 That what i was talking about i forgot to mention plastic cranks. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted February 4, 2008 Super User Posted February 4, 2008 THe cranks I have been making are poured out of Aluminite urethane resin and microballoons in a silicone mold. Allen Quote
guitarkid Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 I have the same kit, but what are micro balloons? Quote
Super User Munkin Posted February 9, 2008 Super User Posted February 9, 2008 They are what you add to make the bait float. Straight aluminite will slowly sink and the micro balloons are a filler that adds bouancy. Allen Quote
