Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 31, 2015 Super User Posted January 31, 2015 It was contract time at Verizon, I wanted a new toy. For the record I was content with my Motorola droid maxx, but I wanted a slightly larger display and a sharper screen. Wanting to stay with android many of the new phones were bigger in size than I wanted, I came across the Samsung galaxy s4. Being last years model it was free, just the upgrade fee. Hardly bigger than my droid the screen jumped from 4.3 to this one being 5". So many features I'll never use or can learn to, lol. Battery doesn't compare to the maxx, but not all that bad. I'm pleased with it, love the voice command to shoot a pic. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted January 31, 2015 Super User Posted January 31, 2015 Yup, way smarter than me, lol, seriously they can be a huge help. I love having GPS , copy and paste function, Music/ Video, just nice extras, I suppose... I use Apple, but I'm switching back to Droid myself come August. Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted February 1, 2015 Super User Posted February 1, 2015 Be sure to use the task manager to close out un-used apps periodically. Do this, keep Bluetooth, GPS, and wifi off when not in use and your battery life will amaze you. Mine easily lasts all day. Quote
plumworm Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 My 7year old flip phone takes pictures. I'm too old and not smart enough to have anything more modern. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted February 1, 2015 Super User Posted February 1, 2015 Pretty soon they're going to try and medically implant these things into us. It's coming. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 1, 2015 Author Super User Posted February 1, 2015 Pretty soon they're going to try and medically implant these things into us. It's coming. Israel has already developed something similar, it's in the funding stage, I did post a link but I can't find it lol. My droid would last 2-3 days without a charge with everything left on. As far as battery life it is better than any of the 4 smartphones I've had. Always have the option of buying a more battery, don't think I will need it. Overall size and display of the Galaxy s4 is what I wanted, the display is crisper and the camera is much better than my droid. Sound quality is not up to par, acceptable for phone but music and videos are lacking. Seldom watching videos and playing music in my car using a flashdrive (excellent) it's not a real big issue for me. I have read that earphones greatly improve the quality but I'm not an earphone kind of guy. So far I'm enjoying it. Quote
a1712 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I'm 48 and have only had a cell for the last 2 years, Wife insisted on it. Most contemptable evil thing I've ever had, I leave it on the kitchen counter 90% of the time. I've had more good times ruined by that thing in the last 2 years than any other in the last 46. Brian. Super User Redlinerobert Posted February 1, 2015 Super User Posted February 1, 2015 I'm also convinced that these phones are programmed to start failing after ~24 months. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 1, 2015 Author Super User Posted February 1, 2015 I'm also convinced that these phones are programmed to start failing after ~24 months. That was really the main reason. Once in a while I'd get a call, line was dead and the phone wouldn't work till I rebooted. I get a kick out of this, have 2 friends back in Detroit both owned pretty big companies, very successful guys. Neither has a computer at work and at home only their wives are computer literate. One of guys had a black rotary dial phone at his business, he was a trader and spent his life making phone calls at work, lol. Those old rotarys never broke and were free from Bell I think. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted February 1, 2015 Super User Posted February 1, 2015 I'd like to start a petition to bring those phones back. Quote
