Super User Darren. Posted February 2, 2015 Super User Posted February 2, 2015 Maybe the new ones are less awesome in the 7 foot M/ML powers and lengths. I grabbed a 7'6'' MH and went "holly crap, how can a 7'6'' be this awesome". I swear the tip was stiffer than the old MH but I need that one.. uh independently verified. If you love the old ones then just go buy them, even at regular retail because it's not like they are getting any more of them. The new ones are based on an entirety different blank making them completely different rods and an unknown quantity. Sometimes it's best to stick with what you know. BPS is not above wrecking a good thing by "improving". Go ask an Extreme reel. Totally agree. It's all in the "hands" of the beholder, so-to-speak. Since I don't go over 6'6" I didn't pick up any of those. I wish BPS left the two models, or maybe intro the white with a new name, and leave the blacks as-is or upgrade the guides, etc. But hey, I'm not the billionaire who runs the place, LOL. 1 Quote
wordty Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I was in my BPS tonight and they are already marked down to around $70. Many of the more popular sizes have barely any left though such as 7 foot medium heavy. And they were mostly the micro guide ones. Slim pickings. Quote
wordty Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Is the Carbonlite pretty much the best sensitive rod under $110 that you can get at Bass Pro? I need a dedicated worm rod and want sensitivity and strength...looking at 7 MH with fast tip. I have gift cards and will get a rod in the Spring Classic, especially with the rod trade in and discounts. Quote

I was also going to check out the duckett ghost rods. Quote

I have had a good experience with them. They are sensitive and strong. I have heard of the CarbonLites breaking more than the Extremes. Not saying that they are brittle but I have heard more stories of them breaking than the extremes. I love when you have a light rod, but I feel like what you get in the lightness factor, you lose in the strength factor. I am not saying the Extremes are heavy, but the Carbonlites are super light. If you are looking for light and sensitive I would go Carbonlite, if you are looking for strength and sensitivity I would go with the Extreme. 1 Quote
kikstand454 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 My bps yesterday didn't have the old carbonlites OR A SINGLE CRANKING STICK. Not the old ones. ...and definitely not the new ones. I complained. The guy shrugged. I said. ..hey. ...this is one of your best selling rods and and complete relaunch of the brand with a new design abd features, and you don't have them? ! He shrugged. I did too. And I walked out. To academy I went ...... More on topic- the new carbonlites felt amazing. I loved everything about it. Quote

At least that's the way the Cincinnati store does it. Hootie Quote
kikstand454 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 ^One can hope. The guy seemed to think there were either none coming, or he didn't know when they were. I've been wanting to check out the new cranking stick because that's the only rod I need- a deep cranker. ( gasp! I know! What does that even mean? !) In all honesty, I don't go to bps very often at all because we have a dicks and academy in the same area and they are always way cheaper and have real sales. Bps is always overpriced on the same stuff and their "sales" tend to be ho-hum. 1 Quote
SK1 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I was able to get an 7.0 MH Extreme 40% off for 60, less 10 with the rod trade in. Prefer the cork grip and happy with a couple of other Extremes I have had for a few years. No black Carbonlite's at my local store. Quote
Cgrinder Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Here's hopin' there's a 7' ML Crankin' Stick in Auburn Hills on Saturday. Quote
JDJ Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Here's hopin' there's a 7' ML Crankin' Stick in Auburn Hills on Saturday. If not, just order one from the store. They will still honor the trade-in discount. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted February 7, 2015 Super User Posted February 7, 2015 Thanks Hootie for the heads up. I went to BPS today and nabbed two of the older Carbonlites. They were on clearance. They even let me do the rod trade in. So I got them for 61.99 and 55.99. I got a 6'6" M/F and 7' MH/F. They are friggin light! I grabbed another PQ 7.1.1 ratio. Plan was to get 2 of the PQ's, but I passed that up when I saw the Carbonlites. The Clearance rods ruined my plan though. This year I didn't have a higher budget (saving for trip to Florida), I was going to buy more lures and miscellaneous stuff but couldn't pass it up. They were going fast. Just to also let everyone know, the old cranking stick was on clearance, KVD cranking rods, Daiwa Lexas and Extremes. 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 9, 2015 Super User Posted February 9, 2015 So I was in Richmond, VA for a soccer tourney for one of my boys. During the downtime I went to the BPS there as I knew they had old Carbonlites (called first). I wanted a 6'6" M, settled for a ML as the only 6'6" models were 2 piece, not what I wanted. Anyhow, today my buddy and I walked a local pond and fished. Me with my ML Carbonlite + a Stradic 1000FI, him with his new white Carbonlite (M 6'6") + a new Sahara 1000. I tried it out. The white was WAY more tip-light than my ML. SOOoooo, I went to the Hampton BPS tonight, exchanged the ML for a new white M. Anyhow, not sure why the ML was so different in tip-heaviness. My black M is only a tad more tip-heavy than the white M, but less so than the ML. Curious. Quote
stk Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I checked out the black carbonlites at my BPS and saw that they had the JM signature series II for about 10 dollars difference (black carbonlites were 71 and JM Sig Series II were 83). I picked up 2 JM Sig series (casting and spinning) in MH. Anyone have any experience with these? In comparison to the black carbonlites, they were a little heavier, but the guides looked better on the JM Sig series. Quote
