danno054 Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 So if we actually get 5 or 6 days of no rain like the weather man says next week I might do a little wade sight fishing. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 29, 2015 Super User Posted May 29, 2015 Send some rain this way the creek I fish is the lowest I've seen it in almost 20 years. It's down 2-3' and for a creek that is normally only 3-4' on average that's pretty low. It's made sight fishing for smallies with the fly rod easy though. Quote

War Eagle Creek? I live within a few miles from where Crooked Creek starts outside Harrison. Fishing is not so good on the upper part of Crooked Creek. Anywhere in Harmon down to Yellville is where it's at. I also live about 6-7 miles from Pruitt on the Buffalo. I'll probably wait a while till the water stays low enough and clears up all the way. danno054 Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 I'll probably be on a little creek call Osage Creek outside of Fayetteville. I'm tired of waiting. Quote

How good is some of the creek fishing over there? Like the Illinois River, Osage Creek, and War Eagle Creek? My dad lives in Springdale. He misses the creeks and the Buffalo River over here. I've only fished Beaver and Lake Fayetteville over there. Quote

War Eagle is like a minature buffalo. Last time I floated it we fished for 6 hours and never saw another person. Everyone over here gets all bent out of shape about the Kings. You can also all three forks of the upper white. And there's dozens of small creeks that are pretty good that you can't float. Shhhh don't tell, let everyone go to the Kings. Quote

I wasn't aware War Eagle had enough water to take a flat bottom down it. Quote
danno054 Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 they probably had to get out a few times. but most of those places they probably got out to fish anyway. Quote
Danturner Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I'm beginning my summer tour to catch a creek smallie over 23 7/8 inches 2 Quote
danno054 Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 I'm beginning my summer tour to catch a creek smallie over 23 7/8 inches thats a stud. you northern guys make us arkie boys jealous. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted June 6, 2015 Super User Posted June 6, 2015 All my river smallies shrunk most are 16-18" at most all dinks. Quote
Danturner Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 I have a section of creek in pa that consistently yields smallies in the 20+ inch margin Quote
Mobydick Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Creek, or cricks as we call em in PA, are my specialty. I have logged over 40 smallies over 4 lb, 11 over 5 lb, and 1 over 6 lb out of my favorite creek. Creeks are often underestimated and it's nice to see everyone giving the creeks the love they deserve! Keep catching em! Ian Quote
Drew03cmc Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I just broke 18" two weeks ago on an underrated creek in Missouri, measured the spawned out girl and turned her loose! Where the heck are you all finding these horses up north? Do you have pictures of the water you are fishing? 2 Quote

Where the heck are you all finding these horses up north? Do you have pictures of the water you are fishing? Smallie creeks up north aren't the same as smallies creeks down here. They've got it made for smallies, but we have it better for largemouth in lakes etc. Congrats on the fish. I've yet to break the 18" mark this summer yet. Only went once though. Caught a few at 17" though. One was actually pretty fat. Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted July 4, 2015 Super User Posted July 4, 2015 When I see everyone's avatar with their personal best of 7-10 pounds I do wish that were me.... but when u live up North, you make lemonade out of lemons. My target up here is smallmouth and we have some dandies. Still in pursuit of my first in the 6-7 lb range but we have many in the 4-5 lb range and they fight like much larger fish. All of these fish were caught in a small tributary to the Mississippi in Central Minnesota this year. 2 Quote

danno054 Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Apparently I can only catch giant goggle eyes and ozark bass 1 Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted July 11, 2015 Author Posted July 11, 2015 You're still catching goggle eyes in this hot weather? They usually dissapear around June for me it seems. This abnormal rainy summer has kept me off the creeks, so very few creek smallies so far this year. One good thing is the Ranger is headed to the shop Monday. Let's hope B.O.A.T. doesn't live up to its name. (Bust Out Another Thousand) haha Quote
danno054 Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 good luck. i saw where bull shoals is like 31ft high! have fun with that!!! Dude i caught some goggle eyes last sunday you could filet! they loved my home made jigs! Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 31 ft high bull = shallow summer fish = happy camper, for me anyway. Nice job on catching those goggle eyes on a jig. Biggest one I ever caught was on a jig. Quote
danno054 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 You should be in flipping heaven! Caught them this evening skipping a wacky senko under over hanging limbs. I never would have thought skipping would be so addicting. Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 Finally got to do another float this summer on Crooked Creek. The water was perfect for floating and fishing. Lots of 1-2 lb fish like in the first picture. The 3 lb smallmouth in the second pic came in at 20 1/2 " long aaahhh. So close, yet so far. Still no 4 lb smallies but some nice largemouth. 1 Quote
danno054 Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Did you think that big bucket mouth was your 4lb smallie? I caught one that went 2 1/4 Tuesday throwing a kvd 1.5 in natural bream. Had a giant show herself on it and I'm going back to find her tomorrow, I'm not sure is she'll get over 4 but she'll get close. 1 Quote
