kbbgood Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 What size fluorocarbon do you guys use on your flippin stiks. Up till now I have used 50 lb.braided line but have been told I need to try fluorocarbon. Have only used fluorocarbon on my light spinning rods like Berkley Vanish. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted January 31, 2015 Super User Posted January 31, 2015 First, welcome aboard. Second, I only use leaders, and the max fluoro I use is 12 pounds. For stronger needs like flipping I use 15 pound Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Others will chime in. My primary is to wish you a welcome to the forums. 1 Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted January 31, 2015 Super User Posted January 31, 2015 Welcome aboard sir! I dig the avatar (if its who I think it is lol). But for flipping, you want some heavy stuff.. IE 20-25#. If your going to battle in the thick of it that is... Quote
BadBassWV Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Stick With the Braid. Use a flouro leader of you feel the need Quote
HookdUP Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 16lb sunline fc ... But I don't consider it my "flipping stick" ... For that I use 40lb power pro slick 8 Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted January 31, 2015 Super User Posted January 31, 2015 Think the most I use if I go to FC is 17lb Seagar Invis-Ex. And like others, I only use a small topshot (5ft at most). If I need heavier, it's straight braid in either 30 or 40lb. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted January 31, 2015 Super User Posted January 31, 2015 Use a leader, however there is no requirement that you have to. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 1, 2015 Global Moderator Posted February 1, 2015 I use mainly 15-20lb on my heavier pitching/flipping rod. I would suggest trying about any line other than Vanish though. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 1, 2015 Super User Posted February 1, 2015 For flipping I like 15lb Yozuri Hybrid or Invisx. Just an opinion, but I would look for another line besides vanish. It is one of the worst lines I have ever used. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted February 1, 2015 Global Moderator Posted February 1, 2015 Welcome!! First off you do not "need" to use floro For flippin in heavy vegetation I use 65# braid. For lighter cover I'm switching from 15# Invisex to 17# sniper or shooter. 20# for jigs. Use what your conditions and confidence tells you. Mike Quote
SpencerLittle Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I use 20 lb flouro forest of my flipping. If I don't have any for some reason in a pinch the only other thing I flip with is trlene big game in 20 or in the real nearly stuff 30. That is some tough stuff period! I only flip with braid if I'm punching. Quote
kbbgood Posted June 16, 2016 Author Posted June 16, 2016 I fish the Lake of the Ozarks a lot and there is not vegetation there but boat docks every where. That is why I am asking about fluorocarbon line. Don't really need big line there but water is so clear most of the time just need clearer line. Still need to be strong line. But your right, 15 or so would be about right. But which line is the best to go to. Quote
BrianSnat Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 I use a 6 ft floro leader on my braided line. I tried floro on spinning reels and hated it, but never tried it on my baitcasters. I guess it could be fine, but I'm happy with my current setup. Quote
