Strothman Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 We are looking at the Arky style jig molt to make chatterbait style baits with. I'm trying to decide if I like them having a split ring between jig and the blade...Opinions? Will they act the same? Or is there a different mold that I should try. I know its not a fully tacklemaking question, but I trust you guys on here haha (I also like the versatility of being able to make the chatterbaits and jigs in the same mold also) Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I use the do it arky style mold and one split ring. It works great. The arky head gets it to hunt depending on the trailer. Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Make sure you get some good split rings or you'll just bend them trying to assemble it. I use owner hyperwires size 2 but you can find some good ones for cheaper. 1 Quote
lmoore Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 My Arky mold from Do-It uses the hooks with the eye vertical along the head (front to back of the eye is same as front to back of the head), so I just bend the hook eye out and attach the blade right to that. The Do-It Trokar Swim Jig has the eye horizontal or perpendicular to the bait, so a split ring is used with those. Pic of Arky: 1 Quote
Brocephus Fishing Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 That mold should work just fine. Attaching a split ring isn't an issue for the most part from my experience as the only time I've really had any real issue is coming through thicker grass causing the grass to get wrapped up in the split ring a little and preventing the blade from "wobbling" fully. But, the split ring has really been a non-issue. Just get some solid split rings that won't bend out when attaching them. Barlows Tackle is a great place to get your rings. Hope this helps. 1 Quote

So can you run them as slow as an original Chatterbait? That's mostly what I was concerned with, because our early spring is spent with a Chatterbait going as slow as possible while still getting the blade to work Quote
Brocephus Fishing Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I haven't had any issues with slow, moderate, or fast retrieval speeds. Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 if ur making ur own I would use a EWG hook. you can T rig a fluke on the back and never get snagged even when coming thru the nastiest timber 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 1, 2015 Global Moderator Posted February 1, 2015 I feel like I get better action with the split ring because the bait has more freedom of movement and it allows my bait to kick out occasionally like I like them to. I don't know about the Arky mold, but it works with the other 3 molds I use to make them. I use the split rings from Barlow's without any major problems. You'll get a bad one occasionally or bend one open but it's not a constant problem. 3 Quote
