IAY Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I finally got the chance to hold the new IMX, and I am shocked how different it is from the older model. The new 843C felt so much clunkier in my hands, and no where near as comfortable as the last generation one I have. Did G.Loomis make up for this by increasing its sensitivity? I would appreciate for anyone who have had both models to chime in for me. Thanks, Quote
SNK Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 It felt dead and sightly heavy to me. It's likely a very good rod, but just handling it didn't do it for me. Quote
adam32 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I ordered a 7'1" m/h when they first came out. I sold it after using a few times. I'll stick with my old imx's, they are better balanced and have better sensitivity and a better feel overall compared to the new ones. Very disappointing. I highly doubt I'll be buying any new loomis rods in the future. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 I sold my 873CRR shortly after buying it too. Not impressed. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 I drove 225 miles to see this rod.. ( amongst others) took my reel, line, tungsten... I'm glad I drove, rather than ordered online. The only rod that Shimano ( Loomis ) has me intrigued with would be the NRX, older imx, older glx... There are to many great rod products now to settle on shimano rods nowadays, IMO. Fwiw, I walked out with a used ( like new) glx rod w recoils, Quote

I got a rep sample for $205, thought I'd stole it. It showed up with the sticker on it, brand new rod; still winning. Took it fishing for a few hours, then came home and put it up for sale. It was just not a good rod, even at the discounted price. Quote
IAY Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 Good thing I didn't sell my last gens... Quote
adam32 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 It's just really disappointing. I love my old imx's and glx jig n worm rods! I should have stocked up. I'm not a fan of any of the new loomis handles either. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 I looked at one when the new ones came out and it reminded me of a St. Croix Legend Tournament, which is not a bad rod, but they felt more alike than the new and old version IMX's when compared to side by side. It felt heavier and just didn't have that "magic wand " factor that the older version does. It was kind of let down. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 I have the new IMX 843C - a rep sample rod that came in new like Tywithay's rod. It's...just OK. It weighs 135 grams (4.7oz) - probably about what the old model 843 weighed I expect. Not a fan of the reduced diameter rear grip, but at least it's a full cork grip. This rod does the job I got it for (mostly lipless cranks) but other, cheaper rods would do as well. I don't expect to get any more of the current gen IMXs in the future. Quote
John G Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 There are waaaay to many older IMX's out there for sale for me to even consider a newer IMX. 1 Quote

coak Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I just picked up an MBR782C. Is this an older IMX or one of the newer ones? Quote

rangerjockey Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I've fished the older model 783 and 843 for years. The only new model I have is the TWR 802 and its a great walking bait and jerkbait rod.. Really like the handle. Quote
