Super User aavery2 Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 Cool, so b.a.s.s. has established the precedence that if you become angry at a fellow competitor and have no prior offenses, you can jump from your boat into his and shove him in the water for only the price of 500 dollars, or if that price seems too steep, you can recklessly crash your boat into his for the lesser price of 250 dollars.. I almost forgot, no AAA ball for the rest of the year. I hope their hands can still be used for fishing after this severe slapping by b.a.s.s. 3 Quote
Tim Kelly Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Depriving someone of a large part of their living for a year is a pretty big deal. A big cash fine and no bans would have been far more appropriate. 1 Quote

A big cash fine and no bans would have been far more appropriate. Just a quick look at these two anglers recent history will show you that neither of them have made any money for at least the last couple of years from fishing open events at least I did not see it. This seems to make your point of a "large part of their income" kind of moot. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Well even if they've not made money directly from the event I expect their sponsors sponsor them because they are on the bass tour and not just fioshing local tournaments, so they're likely to suffer some losses as a result of that. Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 Following the January 16 incident in the Bassmaster Open tournament on Lake Toho regarding Elite Series anglers Ish Monroe and Keith Poche, B.A.S.S. has completed all investigations and announced penalties for both anglers. Ish Monroe has been fined $500 for unsportsmanlike conduct, which is considered a maximum amount for a first offense. He has also been suspended from all 2015 Bassmaster Opens. Keith Poche has been fined $250 for unsportsmanlike conduct, which is considered the minimum amount for a first offense. He has also been suspended from all of 2015 Southern Division Bassmaster Opens. As earlier reported, both parties were also disqualified from the Lake Toho Southern Open—the event in which the incident occurred. B.A.S.S. has refunded the entry fees to the co-anglers who were paired with Monroe and Poche on January 16. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 Not being able to fish the entire season is the big kicker. I pity the local club that Ish joins in order to keep fishing this season! 1 Quote
slimshad Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 He will still fish Elites and FLW. Just not the opens. probably save him some money really. One bad thing is that a win would put him in the 2016 Classic and now he doesnt have that luxury. Poche just has to sit out of the southern opens not the others. 1 Quote
Tim Kelly Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 OK, my misunderstanding. I thought he was banned from the Elites. Not such a terrible punishment then. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 Kind of a joke (the punishment) if you ask me..........which no one is LOL. Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 Kind of a joke (the punishment) if you ask me..........which no one is LOL. I'm with you on it being a joke. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 The Elite guys normally only fish 1 series of Opens anyway. I seriously doubt Ish would have fished the Central or Northern Opens, especially considering he's fishing both tours. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I like that the co-anglers were refunded their entry but if these two are truly remorseful, they'll reimburse the co's for their travel expense. Not likely. So BASS pockets a few hundred and the amateurs are Sold-Out-of-Luck. 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 1, 2015 Global Moderator Posted February 1, 2015 It's just the Opens. He is still fishing the Walmart FLW tour and the BASS Elite Series. Yeah, these guys just fish the Opens for another chance to qualify for the Classic. 1 Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I would suspend Poche the whole year from all B.A.S.S. related tournaments since he's the one that started the whole mess. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted February 2, 2015 Super User Posted February 2, 2015 I would suspend Poche the whole year from all B.A.S.S. related tournaments since he's the one that started the whole mess. I would disagree, Ish took it further than he should've. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted February 2, 2015 Super User Posted February 2, 2015 Why invest in punishment when its already over. Its not like a hockey fight occurred. This seems to mela dramatic. Seems like unsportsmanlike conduct and people want blood! Quote

Only way I see to keep it fair if you're suspending, is to suspend both of them. I'd think Poche would get it for his carelessness that started it, and Ish for escalating it way past where it should have gone. That said, I think BASS did the right thing. If you suspend these guys from all BASS events, you're potentially ruining someone's career. Not saying that they wouldn't have earned it had they gone that direction, but let them prove that it was a one time deal and they can get past the whole deal. Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 OK, suspend both then. But if Ish's boat received enough damage that it needs to go in the shop, that Poche really needs punished. Ish should not have done what he did either. But I think Poche needs more punishment since he could have harmed other boats too. So suspend Ish for the whole season and Poche for a season and a half. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted February 3, 2015 Super User Posted February 3, 2015 A 2 tournament ( Elite series ) suspension would have got their attention, but it's been ruled on, so now we get to see how these type of things will go in the future... Quote

So bumping into someone's boat, deserves more of a penalty than jumping out of your own boat and into the boat of a competitor and attacking him? Before you respond, think about who actually went to jail for their part in the event. 2 Quote

Ish physically boarded his boat and physically touched Poche, He went beyond the line, Ish should've had a more severe punishment. Poche maybe was thinking of his career that he didn't press charges. Never an excuse no matter what to get physical with someone, ever. Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 OK, I'll change what I said again - suspend Ish for a season and a half and Poche for one whole season. Quote
