Dyerbassman Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Anyone live near Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area? I am heading that way with the family for spring break. Places to see, things to do? Any help would be appreciated.... Thanks! Quote
preach4bass Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Head up to Case 's Cove and hike the laurel falls trail, then stop by the store on the way out for a much deserved chocolate ice cream cone. We've done that every time we've visited since we honeymooners there 12 years ago. I love that place! Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 My family has rented cabins during the summer there multiple times for vacation and I have to say it's my absolute favorite place I've been to in my life... Plenty of stuff to do, lots of wildlife in the mountains, and gorgeous secenery make it a blast to go to! My best memory from there is when a bear and it's three cubs came to our cabin and got in our trash 2 times during our stay, it was cool because were just standing on the balcony watching the bears climb the trees and eat garbage lol! I was younger at the time and I was mesmerized by those bears haha Another good memory is when we got caught in a snowstorm our last day there... It was the first time I saw snow in my life, and it was a blast to play in haha Hope you enjoy it! 1 Quote

Mudrider34 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I used to live near there before joining the military and been there a lot after. Like mentioned above cades cove is a good adventure, a lot of shops and go carts for the family. If u are into history I recommend the titanic museum it's pretty cool and for dinner definitely go to Dixie stampede. It's a dinner show with horses and no silverware it's pretty fun they have a ripleys aquarium, and if want to go theme park dolly wood is there and being spring break if go to the watermark side, and a bass pro shop down the road. It's a great place for family vacation and y'all will find plenty to do. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 3, 2015 Super User Posted February 3, 2015 I love going there when I was a kid. We stayed there one year for Christmas. It was, well, magical. We bought all our gifts and a tree in town. It also snowed like crazy. I always like going hiking like others stated. Going to Cades Cove was awesome. I also hiked the small portion of the AT. The Heidelberg up in the mountains (I think it is closed) was a blast. I also have a great memory of sharing my first beer with my dad. It was hot that summer and Gatlingburg/Pigeon Forge did not have enough power to handle it all. With no power the water eventually stopped flowing and where we were the only thing left was beer and pop. They gave the beer and pop away for free in order to keep people hydrated. The only thing that any thing cold was a liquor store in town that had a gas generator. I will never forget sitting with my dad at 10 years old, in 90 degree heat drinking down two Lowenbrau's and eating Limburger Cheese with some crackers and having one PO'd mother. 1 Quote
