Heron Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 To your best guesstimates...What would be the average length of a LMB (of average proportion) that weighs about 8lbs? Quote
Turtle135 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 23.50" http://www.in-fisherman.com/straws-blog/bass-length-to-weight-conversion-chart/ https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/recreational/catchrelease/bass_length_weight.phtml Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 Charts vary a little bit, 24" isn't a bad guesstimate. 1 Quote
LunkercityVB Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 its probaly a wider range say from 20-25 inches depends on the girth....those spawining girls can be short and super fat. Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 Yeeeeeeeh I reckon she 'bout a two footer Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 Girth plays a major roll, this bass is 23 1/2" in length! 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 Usually between 4.5 and 5.5 Inches . . . . . . Oh, and I forgot to mention, I measure between the eyes. A-Jay 5 Quote
2833-34497 Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 A 8.4 & 8.9 lb I've caught both where just a hair over 25", so I agree with above girth has allot to do with this. Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 31, 2015 Super User Posted January 31, 2015 Girth plays a major roll, this bass is 23 1/2" in length! This bass is 14.08 lbs! 23 3/4" girth Quote
mjseverson24 Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I would say 21"-26" it would be a skinny 26" and a pretty darn fat 21". I caught a 24.25" LMB last year that was just a few ounces shy of 9 lbs, and that fish did not have a big belly but it was super healthy... Mitch Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 1, 2015 Global Moderator Posted February 1, 2015 The fish in my avatar was 21.5" long and 17" around and went 7.76 pounds. I caught one in January the same year that was 24.5" long but only 14" around that weighed 7.51 pounds. So it can vary a lot depending on the girth. 2 Quote
hawghound Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Wish I had some experience there to tell you about. In NH that is a VERY large fish and I am not one of the privileged few to have attained that prize. Maybe this year! Quote
hawgenvy Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I recently read an interesting past article on the Bassresource site called "Are my Bass Overpopulated," by Dave Willis and Bob Lusk. It contains two tables, one metric and the other in inches, that compare length and weight of LMB. They can tell you how fat or skinny your bass is, and therefore how well fed the bass in a given pond are. The article and tables should precisely answer Chris S's question. http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/overpopulated-bass.html (By the way, I wish the Bass Resource articles had the published date listed. How do you know if an article is new or from 20 years ago? Especially when it comes to technology, it would be nice to know.) Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 It is all about the girth. I have caught 6 over 8 lbs in Maine, only one was longer the 24 inches. Quote
hawgenvy Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 8 lb bass average length should be 23.55 inches, according to the tables. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 i will let you know when i get my 8lber here in NH. Its gonna come. Shane will let you know what a 10lb 10oz measures later this spring. Unless Mainebass beats him to her. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted February 10, 2015 Super User Posted February 10, 2015 id go with 22-25 , but like every one else said the girth is the deciding factor Quote
