SFL BassHunter Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Howdy everyone, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Gary Yamamoto Fat Ika tube baits and in what colors? Quote
livetofish28 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 NAA they don't work at all they are just a total waste of money Others will chime in lol Tight lines Andrew 1 Quote
Mass Bassin' Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I fished with a kid in a tourney and he loves them and I saw him catch some nice fish on them but I personally haven't caught anything on them...they catch fish just like all yamamoto baits. 1 Quote
annexation Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 They're great - they cast a mile weightless and fish can't stand to let them go by. One of my shallow-water favorites! I prefer rigging mine through the backside instead of the nose. 1 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 29, 2015 Super User Posted January 29, 2015 My god man. There are kids on this site. 8 Quote
Fisher-O-men Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Palm Tree rigged! Nah, they don't work! Not really a tube bait. 2 Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Palm Tree rigged! Nah, they don't work! Not really a tube bait. Ya, I don't consider them a tube. Great alternative to a jig or tube though. Like mentioned casts a mile weightless... 1 Quote

jignfule Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 They are a worthless P.O.S. As a public service I am collecting, free of charge all Fat Ikas for proper disposal. Please P.M. me for the address. You're welcome. 3 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted January 29, 2015 Super User Posted January 29, 2015 Roadwarrior has done very well with the Fat Ika, I'm sure he'll weigh-in. Roger 1 Quote

Super User Crestliner2008 Posted January 29, 2015 Super User Posted January 29, 2015 You'd be hard pressed to find a more effective bass bait under just about any conditions. I love Fat Ikas! 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Well there goes another worst kept secret ever. lol. The Ika rigged backwards and weedless on an EWG hook is a go-to for both SMB and LMB. You can fish it in place of a senko when the fish are aggressive and want a faster fall and will get more bites when worked back than a senko. Dragged around rock pile and humps the smallies will eat them up. They also make a good C-rig bait. I don't fish them weightless in more than 10-12 feet or if drifting too fast as they tend to ride up off the bottom. 1 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted January 29, 2015 Super User Posted January 29, 2015 RW, I was hoping that you'd post "The Magic Lure" http://www.bassresou...the-magic-lure/ I was a BR member less than a year when you made that post, but remember it like it was yesterday! Roger 1 Quote

Thanks for linking me over to that. I did a search under tackle for fat ika and got no topics, so I figured I would start a thread. But its good to know that they work. Thanks to everyone for the feedback and the well placed sarcasm! I'll have to try a pack sometime soon. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 30, 2015 Super User Posted January 30, 2015 Just about the best softplastic bait I have ever fished. Any dark color will do. Quote
plumworm Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 You know, you can't buy just one pack. You need at least 4-5 colors or the bait chimp will make you suffer horrible agony and loss of knot strength. 1 Quote

Yeah Plum that seems to be the case with most of my soft plastics...I just keep buying more cause I have to have different colors and styles. I just expanded my arsenal with 3 packs of Big Bite Baits Needle Worm 5pk on sale for 1.48 to use with the shaky head jigs I bought a week ago. Craw Orange Swirl, Grape, and Junebug colors. I also bought JJ's Magic Dippin' Dye in Chartreuse cause you can never go wrong with Chartreuse. I would like to end this by saying that I am not an addict... ... ... ...ok maybe a little. Quote

dday07 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Visited a friend on the Ohio River...i broke them out and had a smallie on every cast...sucked none of the Dicks sporting goods or gander mountain had them..he orders them online. Quote

Blues19 Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I have some Damiki Hydras. I guess I will have to get me a pack of the Fat Ikas cause I have read so much about them. Quote

The 3'' Ika (not the tiny) has worked very well on smallies for me. Problem is, my most successful color (green pumkin/black) is no longer available. I can't find them anywhere, not even on Yamamoto's web site. If anybody has access to that color in the 3'' ika please let me know. Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 31, 2015 Super User Posted January 31, 2015 Like Roadwarrior posted, you can have outstanding results with a Fat Ika. However, you fish them like a jig so don't think you are going to get bit every cast or every 100 casts. But when you do get hit it may be the bass of your lifetime. Give 'em a try but remember, fish them slow on the bottom and be patient. Quote
