I just received an email from Kistler about their new rod they released today. I currently own two KLX's and they're amazing, but I was curious to know what you guys thought about this new model. I think it's cool how it has conventional guides and a full cork handle, definitely gives it a nice look.

Here's a link... http://www.kistlerrods.com/store/classic-series-6-10-med-heavy-fast.html#.VMklwkY8KnM

Have any of you fished with the old school Kistler Classic series? If so, please share your thoughts. This rod is only available for 72 hours and I could really use a few good excuses to buy one, haha. Thanks!

Did they raise their prices on the KLX models? I swore they were less expensive before.

isthat the only model available? the 6'10 MH? im thinking of grabbing one myself

Right now, yes. But in the description it mentions that they will continue with more models in the future...

"I can personally guarantee you’ll be excited to own one of the limited Classic rods of 2015…heck, you might even want to collect all 12 models over the years so you can be one of the hundred that own the future Classic Series complete set."

They ran a sale on them back in December. Also, I believe some of the smaller spinning models were always a bit cheaper than say like a big flipping stick. For example I got my ultra light 6'3'' spinning rod for $154.95 on sale, but it was originally marked at $179.95

The guides don't look great. No mention of the blank involved either, so I'm guessing it's an imported blank. I dunno, I just think I'd rather have the KLX over this one, considering the price.

the KLX rods. did they update those? he just had a clearance sale and all were out of stock and now theyre back at normal price and most all are in stock.

I have been wondering if they're going to be moving to the Gen2 blanks from NFC. Gary has just started rolling them out, from what I understand. It would make sense for Kistler to move any inventory to make way for new stock. I just wish they'd do away with the split grips and get more of the full handle rods in. So much more comfortable to fish.

I doubt Trey would start using imported blanks. That goes against what he's all about. Although I do agree it's abnormal to not mention the blank, also the fact that this rod comes with a 5 year warrenty as opposed to the standard 1 year on KLX's and 3 years on the Heliums makes it a little suspect.

The Magnesium, Pro Series, and Carbon Steel are all imported blanks. Only the ZBone, Helium, and KLX, use American made NFC blanks.

I know, but those rods have been out of production for some time now, correct?

The new models are all North Folk, so I don't see why the Classic wouldnt be. I guess I need to make a phone call and ask them.

Yup, that classic doesn't market a USA blank, I agree it's likely imported... Guides also seem pretty cheap... At the price, I would skip over it and go KLX, but that's just me...

Those models are all current. The Magnesium only came out a few months ago. They're all imported.

Depends on how light they are look real nice

Looks to me like Trey is attempting to please the masses. Some prefer function, some prefer form. The classic has shiney winding checks, trim parts, and fancier wraps. The Klx utilizes an American made Nfc blank. The Helium kinda has both. Get in where you fit in.
