crankcaster100 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Can this rod be used as a frog rod with success? Quote
livetofish28 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 What is the Rod? Action? My swimbait stick can't even load with a frog but will hurl a 1 1/2 oz football Tight lines Andrew Quote
hatrix Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I am sure you can use it. I have thrown paddle tails on a 1-4 oz swim bait rod. The length might be a issue and you might have to work it sideways. Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Can this rod be used as a frog rod with success? How about for jigs Depends on the rod. If you're talking about, say, a Dobyns 795SBMT it's a a little too heavy for most frogs and jigs. It can load a 3/4-1 ounce jig w/ trailer and effectively fish it but it's not ideal. What rod will you be using? Quote
crankcaster100 Posted January 29, 2015 Author Posted January 29, 2015 It's a st croix ltb 7'9 heavy Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Read the *** review of the LTB swimbait. They mention using it for jigs and flipping. Should work for the techniques you listed. Quote
Crappiebasser Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 The LTB 7'9" H is a punching rod rated 1/2-2 oz. The LTB swimbait rod is a 7'10" rated 1-4 oz. which one are you referring to? Quote
einscodek Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Yea I can throw a big frog on my Phenix swimbait rod but it aint gonna have as much range and Im likely not gonna hit the mark Quote
TorqueConverter Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 1 -4 oz I wouldn't use it for frogs personally. The rod is probably not going to have the tip needed to load up and launch a frog let alone walk one in a beautiful wide glide. I'm not familiar with the rod so might be wrong and maybe it does have soft enough tip but there's only one way to find out. Tie one on and start chucking it in the yard. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 29, 2015 Global Moderator Posted January 29, 2015 Biggest issue is going to be getting it to load during the cast. Quote
crankcaster100 Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 What else could I ise this rod for? I don't have any swim baits I don't know why I bought this thing Quote
TorqueConverter Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 What else could I ise this rod for? I don't have any swim baits I don't know why I bought this thing Musky and big pike stick or maybe a punching stick if you have matted vegetation. Quote
crankcaster100 Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 Nice I'll try getting some musky this summer Quote
KritterGitter Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 What else could I ise this rod for? I don't have any swim baits I don't know why I bought this thing Easy enough, buy some entry level swimbaits, some nice ones can be had for not a whole lotta $$$, if ya dont like the swimbait world you could always sell them off and continue using it for pike/muskie or heavy jigs.... In the process ya might find the pike/muskie like the swimbaits too, win-win.... 1 Quote
