I didn't develop it here, but elsewhere long ago.  However it applies to all that I've been a part of.

Read more.  Post less.

And if you happen to be well under the median age of active members of a forum, then I appreciate it all the more if you share my philosophy.

Good advice. It seems like a lot of the same questions are asked over and over on this forum..

Honestly, I don't even mind that so much.....I just tend to mind the incessant posts that don't add value to a topic.  Now, I'm good with a humorous addition that may not be a good answer as long as it isn't snide or nasty mocking.

We have many young guys and gals plus those new to bass fishing joining the Forum every day.

We must continue to answer their queries even if they have been asked previously.

Your thread reminds me of a story about Cal Ripkin.  He was playing in a game after the playoff contenders were announced and he was playing hard in a game that did not matter in the standings.

When asked why he was playing so hard in a meaningless game, Cal replied "In the stands there are people that came to see me play for the first time and I want them to see me play my best."

So when we get a repeat question just remember that there are those new to our sport that are looking for an answer so they can learn and grow from the best guys in bass fishing on the Internet.

These kinds of posts puzzle me.  Every forum isn't a bunch of the same guys who are talking all the time.  there are lots of new people and they have questions.  Sure we all get tired of what is the best $100 rod or why should i buy a shimano over a diawa or lews but it doesn't matter.  it is the exchange of information that leads people to become better educated about the sport we all are fans of.  There are plenty of threads i don't click on because i know it has been said before but low and behold it has 4-5 pages worth of information.  And the whole median age thing is plain silly....i don't care what age someone is if they can give me some pointers on techniques i may not know much about.

i guess i always feel like these types of posts are a passive aggressive attempt at telling people not to post because it inconveniences them to scroll past a few threads when they visit the site.

I completely agree..I think everybody should post as much as they want..thats why the forums are here. If you dont like it dont read it. The only exception would be when flyfisher posts in any thread containing the acronym nfl.

There are a high percentage of posts I do not read, and many of those I do read I do not comment on. This philosophy could be stated as: Enjoy what you like and ignore the rest. I don't always follow this, but think it is a sound policy.

I agree whole heartedly. I do enjoy the post from the insane world of Clayton regarding his psychotic ex.

I don't post about my psychotic ex. I post about my adventures in crazy land.

I've been on a few forums that seem to share your philosophy. I go to check them out and only two new posts since September. Nothing to read. "BORING"!

Interesting....I'm speechless.  Thought it was good to help others and that no question was a stupid one.  This would not be a site as good as it is if we all were just lookers.  Life is a repetitive too in many ways....I'm glad for it....the other option I'm not a fan of.

Perhaps I should have just said "Get off of my lawn!"

As I said above, I don't have a problem with repetitive topics.  And the exchange of information here is something I value extremely highly.  I WANT to learn from all of your experiences.

I guess I need to get better about applying my BS filters....and about ignoring posts that do nothing to add value, but seem to just pad post counts.  I tend to get frustrated by those who feel the need to reply to nearly every thread without adding value.  Whether it is "I haven't used that, but...."....or statements that appear to come from experience, but are only regurgitated googling with zero real experience in that technique or brand, etc.  And my teeth always get to grinding when I read a thread that starts out with a request for reviews or impressions of, say a particular $120 reel, and someone inevitably says, "you must get xxxx $200 reel"...and come to find later that the replier has never used either....

My remark about youth stems from my personal observation that the posters that tend to do those things above that I find irritating most often are the most inexperienced fishermen.

So....I will amend my philosophy from "Post more.  Read less".....to "I will endeavor to filter out the BS and ignore those that I find irritating"

Oh...and

Man, it's cabin fever time...

Okay guys, I get to read almost every post in every section of this Forum.

To say some questions are redundant is redundant! We encourage new

members to spend some time looking around the site, reading the fishing

articles and watching our videos. If you really want to ramp up the learning

curve, the articles and associated links will get you there faster than posts

on the Forum. That being said, the Forum is based on give and take, questions

and answers and in most cases opinion and bias.

So, What's the best knot to tie the best lure to the best line on the best reel

on the best rod? These questions will be asked again and again. You have

ABSOLUTELY NO OBLIGATION to respond, just move on. For stuff you care

about, interaction on the Forum should be fun.

Let's try to be a little more courteous and gentle.

Winter boredom gets the best of us. I am 24 and post a lot since I became a member but read for about a year before joining. I hope I am not one of those you speak of :)
