Not 100% sure it this topic belongs here but here I go...

Has anyone mounted a DSLR to their boat to take HD videos?  I know I could use a tripod but I am looking for a little more stable and permanent solution (since my Canon SL1 was fairly pricey).   I am thinking that the 1/4" 20tpi connection on the bottom of my camera will provide the best option.  I was looking at GoPros and other action cams but I think my SL1 will provide better video and plus I wont have to spend more money on another camera.

Try taking the rear pedestal out of the back of your boat and and replace it with a PVC pipe that has a cap on it and a 20tpi nut that is run through a hole you drill in the cap and then epoxied in place. It should stay in well and after you have the cap sealed on the pipe you can paint it to make it pleasing to the eye.

Ram is how I mounted my gopro.......is your camera water proof? It will get wet if it is on a boat.
