crankbank Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) I am looking to upgrade one of my spinning rods, to be used mostly for shaky heads and senkos. I am probably going to get a Dobyn's, but am trying to narrow it down. I think I would be best off with a 3 power, so I am mostly stuck between the 683sf and 703sf. I know these decisions are usually personal preference, but I would like to hear if anybody has any experience with either, or if the 682sf or 702sf would be a better option. Thanks! Super User BrianinMD Posted January 27, 2015 Super User Posted January 27, 2015 Which model of Dobyns you thinking about, Savvy, Champion, or Champion Extreme? That may change the answers, each line is a little different. Assuming Champion by the 682SF, so me personally I would go for the longer of the two especially if most of its us will more open water. Shorter rod if skipping docks comes into play. Quote

Arv Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I use the Dx 703sf when I throw shakey heads on a spinning rig. I use it a lot for Senkos, wacky and t-rig. I like it a lot. I'm sure either will be fine. The rod power, IMO, should be mostly based on the weights you plan on throwing. I feel like the 3 power is a versatile rod in the spinning line up. Quote

Champion line of rods* Great answers so far, I would echo, 703s in the Champion would cover all of my spinning rod needs personally. I throw 1/16 oz heads with 3" trailers on the 743dx myself and while it isn't the best casting rod in the world for that light of a bait, I don't worry about 5+lb spots when I hook them on it. 1 Quote
