Catch 22 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I went to a local pond that is known for relatively good bass catching in the winter. WT 40deg,clear water, acceptable weather, resulted in a sluggish hit on an LC jerk on the second cast that got off very shortly.I issued a mental "yes" they are on to myself. Two hrs later it came to be that they were not on.I tried for yellow perch, crappie and pickerel.Nothing would play tight line with me. So I moved to another pond with cloudy water from recent rains, same 40 deg temp.Half hour of casting showed no results.I began thinking this was going to be an armchair puter afternoon.I moved to an area that had a 3' deep flat that dropped to about 5'. A nice 23" pickerel smacks the LC on a slow pause and go retrieve.Next cast another and then another. Then a 15"lmb.I realized that a feed was taking place so I put the LC away, and started with a 1/8 hair jig olive/spritz of orange. They loved it.This pond gets weed choked in the summer and lots of them were still there.Often when the jig hit a weed it resulted in a strike. I fished for about 2-1/2 hours. Tally was 17 pickerel 6 lmb==4 over 14" 3 yellow perch 11' to 12" 1 crappie @ 13" Bad weather coming so I`ll be shut in for several days ,but this trip was oh so nice. C22 3 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted January 27, 2015 Super User Posted January 27, 2015 Sounds great! I went out today to beat the winter storm (not so much a storm down here) since the barometric pressure was so low. But the northerly winds were not my friend. In fact, today was a skunk of a day! Quote

Catch 22 Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 Nice day here about 60 deg air. Lotta bass boats out today. Tide water=Wt 39 deg ,good vis. Most anglers were drop shotting. I was after crappies. Several different lures and colors netted about 20 for me, all released .Best lure was a 2"Fin S Fish char/glitter. I transferred to a pond and nicked 2 pickerel @ 22' & 19" With a few more warm days like this one the bass will turn on too. C22 Quote
Catch 22 Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 Back on the same small pond today. WT 50=52 couldn`t believe it. Really slow start. Most fish moved into shallow water about 3 feet. First fish a 3 lb lmb followed by a 2 lmb. Then the pickerel and yellow perch started . Surprizingly the perch had already spawned Tally 3 lmb 6 pickerel 6 yellow perch All the fish hit an LC 78 ghost Tried jigs =nada The first pullage in a long time really felt good. C22 Quote
