Lucky Strike Stx Jerkbait

does anyone have any feedback on these.  I bought one and found some open water to try it.  I does nothing but come straight forward when jerked.  No eratic action at all.  I know there are some good reviews but i am not impressed.

I love them and they certainly do work. It may be your rod or your cadence.  You have to make sure youre twitching the bait and not pulling it. Basically on a semi slack line not completely taught. Make a long cast, reel down a little bit, then start to twitch your rod. Try and watch the bait as it gets closer you should see it dart left and right.  Line diameter can also mess with jerkbaits.  If you're pulling the bait and not letting it move it wont dart as well.

You shouldn't have any problem at all with 'action', what the RC STX's do fault on is not all their jerkbaits lay in the water right. it's probably 65/35% bad to good ratio of how they're suppose to act when it comes to suspending, sinking, fast float, tail up etc. From the majority of bad ones, you can correct them by adding cut up suspend dots after the bill.

 

 

Try working out different jerks/twitch styles along with reeling speeds and keep and eye on your line slack.

Tell us about the setup you are using to fish them with.  Rod, reel and line are important factors that may be causing your problem and not the bait itself.

I am fishing it on a 6.6mediun fast  batcaster with 12 pound mono.   I can get pointers the act eratic just not these

 personally I go with 8lb-10lb fluorocarbon. Not sure it matters that much but mono floats, if you want a bait to suspend longer you want a neutral balance.

I fish the STX a ton on 10lb mono and have great success with it. I did get one that the ball was stuck in the back of the bait so it suspended tail straight down but that's 1 bad one out of several dozen baits. It doesn't have near the erratic action that a pointer does, but it's not supposed to either. It's more of a roll and slither forward than a sharp slash or cutting that the pointer does. If you're looking for a bait that has that cutting action that is a little more affordable I'd probably be looking at the Rapala Xrap.

These have always work good for me. No problems and they suspend very well

I have exactly 15 of these, 9 of them are the 4.5" and 6 of them the 3.75" and what I find amazing is they are all consistent in running depth and suspending qualities. As Bluebasser86 has already mentioned, these aren't about a hard darting side to side erratic action, instead they roll and flash and have a tight movement which is what makes them so effective. The same action is what makes the Megabass Vision 110 so good, it will get the really lethargic fish to hit when they won't hit any other bait. I don't look at a Pointer as a super erratic bait, to me the most erratic is the X-Rap, the Pointer is a little slower but it does dart wider to the side than the STX but don't be fooled, the STX will catch fish.

I think that it affects the position it sits rather than true buoyancy. I read that Fred Roumbanis uses braid so he can sense better and use smaller, more acute twitches.

I'd classify it as more of a finesse type jerkbait. They'll definitely catch fish. Maybe even try imparting a little less action in them as they tend to just pull when worked aggressively.
