You can go two pounds heavier with the suggested line test but that's about maximum.

 

Otherwise, 12 pound test works great. Heavier test if you are fishing around lots of structure or don't need the bait to go deeper.

This is a pretty heavy rod and the reel drag maxes out at around 10lb. The rod is like a broomstick with amazing sensitivety. It has a extra fast action.

The numbers on the rod and reel really don't matter. If it says 8/150, you can still use 10lb or 12lb, or even 30lb braid. As long as the drag is set properly, the reel is not in harms way.

I like 15lb Tatsu for mine, but that line won't handle well on spinning gear. The highest I'd use on spinning is 10lb fluoro, or maybe 20lb braid.

I use 30lb SX1 braid with a 8lb Invizx leader.

Bass size spinning reel I'd use nothing heavier than 8# mono, but I'm a braid user.  I use 10# on my pond set ups and 15# when fishing areas of heavier vegetation.

The exact line combo I used all of last year, except it was on a med/f rod. When I was Senko fishing. MH/F when t-rigging.

Thanks for all the options guys. I will probably end up going with 20 or 15 pound braid with or without a fluorocarbon  leader. The ponds and lakes I fish are all pretty muddy and overgrown with hydrilla and lily pads.
