What's the lightest line you guys use for super fluke fishing? Generally I use 12 lb fluoro on baitcasting gear but now I'm currently in the midst of an infatuation with spinning gear. Anyone throw these things on 10lb braid? Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 25, 2015 Super User Posted January 25, 2015 I use 12 lb fluoro on casting gear, it works well for me and I have no reason to switch. That said, a lot of people do throw Flukes on spinning gear, I'm sure many of them use light braid. Quote

fishinphilly Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 when I'm using a spinning setup fishing flukes and if the waters clear ill throw straight 8lb test but if the waters stained at all or I'm fishing it around pads or wood ill throw 20-30lb braid Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted January 25, 2015 Super User Posted January 25, 2015 6lb or 8lb diameter braid depending on which rod i throw it on. I like the braid as it has zero stretch and when using slack line techniques, it gives me a better hookset. Quote

jcoffman55 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I use 15 lb braid on a med action rod with a 10 lb flouro leader. I love the way this setup casts, but more importantly, I really like the way the braid sort of floats on top of the water with a lot of slack in it and the flouro sinks. This lets me sort of control the depth or sinking of the weightless rig and the flouro sort of acts like a weight. I dead stick the fluke around structure and when I twitch the slack braid the fluke shoots up towards the surface then wiggles back down. Sort of like senko fishing but with something that looks a lot more like a wounded minnow. I've caught a LOT of fish using this setup and it is my favorite for fluke fishing around cover near the shore. Throwing them at schooling fish in open water is a little different. I call what I was talking about finesse fluking and It is a lot of fun. You just watch the braid, use high vis since you have a leader, when it starts doing something different sweep set the hook. Oh yea for a regular super fluke, I use a smallish 3/0 gamakatsu lightwire EWG. I think it gives the fluke more action and a better fall as it's less nose heavy. I've gone through different weight flouro, and you can get different sink rates by using heavier or lighter line for your leader. Quote
