desmobob Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Today, 0°, reached 17°, but the wind chill kept it near 0 all day. One of our regulars, an old timer, leaned into the kitchen on his way out, and with a wink, reminded me it's only 40 days 'til trout opener. Only 40 days! I like that kind of thinking! I keep telling people, "In two months, we'll have forgotten all about this weather." I figure that has to be true, otherwise, there wouldn't be anyone still choosing to live in the Northeast. ;-) It is funny how quickly and completely you forget about winter up here. I've TRIED to recall that feeling of winter's cold on some hot, humid days in July and August, and I couldn't raise a single goose-bump! The forecast is for warmer temperatures this weekend - above freezing on Sunday! I'll be out on the lake, doing some ice fishing. Tight lines, Bob 2 Quote
yugrac Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 5 inches of snow today, sun is out now but has not made it to 32 yet, the same for Sunday, chance of another inch of snow. Below zero wind chills for Monday, calling for snow at the end of next week again. I think spring is getting farther away instead of closer. 1 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted February 22, 2015 Super User Posted February 22, 2015 i wouldn't know how some of you people down south feel who might complain about a little cold front We can handle the little cold-fronts pretty well, but the big deluge of snowbirds not so well Roger Quote
plumworm Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Winter doesn't suck. It keeps the fishing industry in business. Can anyone comprehend what would happen if the millions of us stuck north of the Mason/Dixon line could fish all year and would only buy what we needed when we needed it? The death of the "bait monkey" could also bring about the death of: Berkley, Shimano, Rapala, Strike King, Netbaits, and every other fishing tackle company. None of us would sit at home most nights and pour over a catalog or websites to fulfill our fantasy. BR may also suffer membership because we are fishing rather than just dreaming about it. Can you imagine the impact of global warming to the fishing industry from ice free lakes in WI., MI., Minn.,? in January? How many employee would be laid off in the fishing industry?, how many men would become "unmarried ?" I guess the lawyers would get rich but the question is "do they fish?" enough to make up loss?. This question has caused me to ponder my navel. I have an innie . 1 Quote

It would boom because more people would loose more lures, all winter these lures are sitting safely in there boxes. 1 Quote
AQUA VELVA Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 It's a struggle here in MI alright. All of the things that I enjoy doing require warm weather. I have thought about getting involved in some kind of winter sport but then I would have to go outside and that would ruin it for me. Excuse me, but it's time for me to go through my BPS Master Catalog...............again. Quote
Klebs01 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Less than two weeks to the trout opener in WI. At least I got a chance to organize my flyfishing stuff again today. Only put a few items in my cart on TW. Didn't complete the purchase yet. Held the bait monkey at bay for another day. Quote
plumworm Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Klebs, It may only be 2 weeks until the trout opener, but have you been outside lately? Gotta love the optimist. Maybe April. Quote
ChrisWi Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 As much as I've been enjoying ice fishing I've got three new powells at home waiting patiently for the ice to go away. Quote
skeeter1980 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Last year I was still fishing in January. Not so this year. Our ponds and lakes frozed up in January, this year. With all of the cold temps.,that we are having,I hope by March I can get out. Quote
Violinguy Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 The kids have been bugging me for the last few weeks. When are we going fishing again? I tell them, as soon as the temp. gets above 30 for at least a week straight. We're in Atlanta, and that hasn't happened yet. Saturday morning I woke up and the temp. was 14 degrees. Tomorrow, we are expecting an inch or two of snow and/or ice. So for now, I tell the kids to get used to working on the model train layout instead of fishing. Quote
Catch 22 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 The few times I ever did ice fish,I could never hit the hole when I cast,so I gave it up. 2 Quote
BaitMonkey1984 Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Buy. Buy. Buy. Repeat. Couple hundred pounds of new soft plastics, 3 new 3700 of cranks, one new 3700 of jigs, five new rod and reel setups, all the line I could ever need in a lifetime....really starting to see what everyone has been telling me -I have a problem. At quitting time its off to the lake. Quote
Nebasska Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 OMG I can hardly wait I am so sick of the crap weather I have already got everything ready like 10-15 times and spent all my tax return on a new outboard new pole new rod and a ton of tackle my old lady knew I would be living under my boat...Please Fishing gods bring the warm.... lordhell Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Waiting patiently for that Spring spawning season... Got the itch real bad! Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted March 4, 2015 Super User Posted March 4, 2015 Y'know... If it wasn't for the I have no idea what I would do in the winter anymore. Y'all should come and try skiing sometime. Winter only sucks if you don't have anything to do. I used to be incredibly miserable during the dark and cold months and then I found skiing... It's still cold and dark but at least you can float around in fluffy pow and dance with gravity while high fiveing your friends over chairlift beers. I legitimately feel bad for people who have no recreation outlet in the winter. Quote
ChrisWi Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 I play basketball, go do stuff with friends and of course go ice fishing, a lot of guys enjoy snowmobiling, sadly there hasnt been enough snow this year so now snowmobiles on the trails. Quote
