Dypsis Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I am looking to protect my rods and have been looking into rod covers/sleeves and there are about 50 different vendors. I saw TW carries a couple, but in my search found a company called Rod Condom, while I'm not sure if I want rod condom on all my rods - it is veteran owned and if the quality is there would prefer to support a company like that. What brand does everyone use and how have been your experiences? Also, do micro guides make a difference? Matt Quote
ABW Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 The Rod Glove is what I use. They make covers for micro guides, but I don't have experience with them. 2 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 24, 2015 Super User Posted January 24, 2015 I use the bass pro brand when they had them on sale last year during their spring classic. I also have mostly micro guide rods and haven't noticed any difference, just make sure you get ones of the appropriate length and type as the ones for spinning and casting are different. Quote
WildcatBassin Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Ive used a couple different ones in the past, but The Rod Glove is by far the best one made imo. To me they fit the best and have a massive variety of color and pattern choices. Quote
livetofish28 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 There is a new one called Rod armor that has just recently come out that has the ends dipped in something that is solid to prevent the hooks of the baits from getting stuck in it. I know they are sponsoring the VA junior bass federation nation Tight lines Andrew Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 24, 2015 Super User Posted January 24, 2015 I have a few made by rod glove but after I realized how simple they were I just made my own. It's about 1/2 the price and gave me freedom to adjust the length for certain rods. 1 Quote
travis23 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I have a few made by rod glove but after I realized how simple they were I just made my own. It's about 1/2 the price and gave me freedom to adjust the length for certain rods. When i first saw them i thought, I could make that! Then I read somewhere someone making some, but never did see that again. Is that something you would share with us? I think mine are made by Rod Glove also, and ilike them. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted January 24, 2015 Super User Posted January 24, 2015 I use the BPS brands and Rod Glove. I also got the BPS brands during the classic last year. They are awesome and was half the price of the Rod Glove version. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 24, 2015 Super User Posted January 24, 2015 When they first came out The Stick Jacket was what I bought and I got quite a few. They work well. The neoprene Rod Glove is a much better protector of the rod but if you plan on getting a bunch, could cost you some $$$$$ A-Jay Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted January 25, 2015 Global Moderator Posted January 25, 2015 I use stik jackets on all my rods. Ditto I started useing the bass pro ones but the rods kept pushing through the tip. Mike Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 25, 2015 Super User Posted January 25, 2015 I've got some from "Rod Sox" that I bought a few years ago. Since then I've started making my own. You can buy the material on Ebay and make them at whatever length you want. Quote
Blues19 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I use mostly Bass Pro ones. They are good enough for the job. I expect to see them on sale again for the classic. I have had some of the smaller guides pop of them though, so I may look for a higher quality sleeve for the rods with smaller guides Quote
Bassfink86 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Rod Glove and McCoy rod covers, prefer the Rod Glove ones though Quote
Trent Wilson Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I stick with the BPS brand. Had them since they came out with only 1 problem. The black ones are stated for 7' rods, yet fit on a 6'6 rod like they were custom made for it. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 25, 2015 Global Moderator Posted January 25, 2015 Academy had a bunch on sale for $2 a piece for Black Friday, all my rods have covers for them now. The Bass Pro ones aren't bad either. I stick with the BPS brand. Had them since they came out with only 1 problem. The black ones are stated for 7' rods, yet fit on a 6'6 rod like they were custom made for it. They must have shortened them up, I have a 7' 8" deep cranking rod with one of their black covers and it reaches the bill of my crankbait when it's on the keeper right in front of the reel. Quote
Trent Wilson Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 If you want an idea of what I'm working with, it's a Lew's BB1 on a Quantum escalade HD. Keeper is behind the reel and the cover comes just short of the reel. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted January 25, 2015 Super User Posted January 25, 2015 I use some from a brand called kdsports. They are a bit better quality than basspro and cheaper, cant go wrong. Quote
Megastink Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 You need to check out Rod Warrior USA neoprene covers. They're awesome, and offer more padding. Owners name is Pete, and he can do custom lengths. Check them out! Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted January 25, 2015 Super User Posted January 25, 2015 Stick jackets work fine but I moved to Rod Socks. That tapered tip makes getting rods into rod lockers MUCH easier Quote
Mr Swim Jig Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Rod Glove rod and reel covers is all I use. Quote
Dypsis Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 Thanks for all the information I'll certainly look into some if the recommendations. Quote
