TyTheAngler Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Not sure if I am using the proper terms but My two favorite frogs are the *** Lunker Leopard Frog and the KVD Sexy frog. I throw the legged frogs over lilly pads and heavy cover and the stringed legged frog over everything else. Is that the correct thing to do? Or does it not really matter? How do you decide which one to throw? Quote

mjseverson24 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I use the skirted frogs for any cover, the only time I use the legged frogs is in open water or sparse cover situations as it actually looks more like a real frog. Using a legged frog over heavy cover defeats the purpose as the fish cannot see very well what the frog looks like... Mitch 2 Quote

For one, yes, a legged frog would look more realistic. But those skirts have got to have great action. Interesting topic. Your also right, although given the options that's how I would fish em. Ive had em hit the skirted legs in open water and vice versa, the spro bronzeye shad (skirted legs) is made for use in open water and it doesnt really look like much of anything, but it catches fish time after time. In all reality I don't think it matters but as a confidence thing, skirts in cover, legs in open water. 2 Quote

carlm01 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I use only skirted frogs and love them ... I carry at least one frogging rod/reel set up with me and 10-12 different sizes and colors all koppers live target .... There's nothing better than getting a strike on a top water lure ....... 1 Quote

long island basser Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I use the skirted frogs , spro, live target, and booyah. They all work well. My favorite is the spro popping frog. Always have one tied on and they work great in the many shallow lakes and ponds in my area. Cast around and right into the heart of cover, (pads , laydowns , ect ). Hollow body frogs have caught me a ton of bass over the years, good luck to you! Quote

Although, the frogs with legs look ideal and realistic and marketed very creatively, ultimately they don't last. Yes, they will catch you fish, but will not stand up to the abuse. One particular brand, that retails for about $7-$8 quickly comes to mind and in one outing with me, in the glades was destroyed. I quickly went back to my skirted frog of preference and kept catching fish all day with same frog. 2 Quote

And at this point the bas is looking at the commotion and outline. So not so much on detail. When I have open water I try to mimic real with legged. Herr there is nothing but the bait to hone in on. I will sometimes use a moded frog with shorter shirt and walk the dog in the open. 1 Quote

What I was using wasn't a buzz toad that u reel and the legs kick. it was a hollow body frog with legs instead of skirted legs Quote
