Best Rods For These Style Baits.

Hey guys, first post here and was looking for some advice on two rods for each my spinning reels (revo premier 20-30) and my baitcasting reels (revo sx/pro max) I really would like to get duckett rods cause they are 100$ on eBay and fit my price range. If anyone has any info that could help steer me in the right direction below is specifically the baits I'll use in the catagory. Thank you.

I plan on using senkos/roboworm/trick worms some soft plastic crass Texas rigged on one rod,

and will be using the smaller Xcalibur xcs100 and xrk25-50 still shad jr those will be the two different style baits for the spinning rods I need.

For baitcasting rods (don't use my baitcasters often) I need a rod for similar soft plastics but I will up the size since the smaller stuff will only go on my spinning set ups so bigger worms and then jigs half ounce up to maybe a little heavier...

Then crankbaits that are a little heavier then what I can use in spin set up. Spro bbz 4 inch I even have some 6inch bbz and a Huddleston 8 inch and if it's possible for something that's universal I have a handful of spinner baits.

I also have a lot of top water stuff, spooks and koppers LT frog bigger size and the medium size. Not sure what rod to be look at.

Obviously there's a plethora of rods out there so that's why I wanna stick to the duckett, of course even this one brand has a lot of different stuff to offer and has me completely lost in sizes and powers/actions. I'm not picky I just want to have 4-5 rods that fit each catagory so I'm not trying to use a heavy fast action rod for everything when it won't work. I don't like really short length rods. If that helps any just post what u think or what u use.

Well, I have a few Duckett rods, few St. Croix....money here is your issue. For the proce, it's hard to beat a Duckett. However, I've been spending the pocket change I throw in the jar at the end of the day testing some rods. Quantum makes a decent rod with excellent feel and weight. But if you're serious about spending money on a good rod, hard to beat a MH 7 footer from either Duckett or St. Croix. I prefer the St. Croix with the micro guides. Keeps line smack down and makes for a much better cast/pitch.

I'm not sure what Duckett you would need to throw a 4.25oz Hudd.  Honestly if you're gonna get into the larger swimbaits, you need to really get a swimbait set up.  Now back to your question.  Spinning, I'd look at finding 2 M Fast action rods in a 6'10-7' range. That should cover anything you want to do with your spinning reels.  Now, baitcast, I'd go with 1 7ft or 7'3" MH Fast action, and then one in a Heavy action.  Both Fast action and that should cover your needs from 1/2 oz jigs, Frogs, cranks, and the smaller swimbaits under 2oz.

Let me ask you this, have you been to Walmart and seen any of there rods? Kvd has a few red tour rods one is that long one for baitcaster I have that one and also the 6'6 for baitcasters, would that be good enough for my cranks? I also have the spinning that's I think 7'4 extra fast tip... Then I have the vendetta rods light/medium/ heavy in spinning and the baitcaster rod in medium heavy. Would those rods all fit the application close to what a duckett performs at?

ok that sounds pretty good. I'm gonna get 2 rods from duckett to start out with, one for my spinning stuff and one for the baitcaster.

For single hook baits I like to use fast action rods unless its flipping and pitching then modfast. For treble hook baits I like modfast. The power I use usually goes by the weight of the bait I'm throwing. I only use graphite as well.

I have a duckett spinning rod and I love it. Plan on getting a baitcaster next week. One thing I wanted to add was I think they're a little underpowered my medium heavy feels a little lighter I mean it's not a bad thing it's handled numerous fish over 5 but just something to keep in mind.

You are muddying up the waters with your first few post, you would get more replies if you make it easier for everyone to understand. You want spinning rods and then a baitcast set up but then you say 4 or 5 different set ups and you want Duckett rods but then you want to know which KVD rod for cranks????? Slow down and well help you out.

 

1. Spinning rods - 6'6" - 7' medium power fast action, these will handle 99% of the applications you would need a spinning rod for.

 

2. Casting rods - 7' - 7'3" medium heavy power fast action will handle most single hook baits like T-rigged soft plastics, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and jigs.

 

3. Casting (cranks) - This is where it gets a little confusing, the power is going to depend on what kind of cranks you want to throw, if you want to throw a 6XD and a 1.5 well to me they are 2 different rods but I'll try to cover all of it for you.

 

3B. Cranking (shallow to mid depth) - 6'6" -7'4" medium power moderate or moderate fast action but if you are banging square bills through cover or are using heavy baits over 1/2oz then you will want a medium heavy power with the same moderate or moderate fast action.

 

3C. Cranking ( mid depth to deep diving) - 7'3" - 8' medium heavy power moderate or moderate fast action, this will be different with the newer super cranks like the 10XD or the SKT magnum as you will have to get a heavy power and the action is going to be a fast or moderate fast.

 

4. Swimbaits - This is tricky because it depends on what type of swim bait you are throwing, you said Huddleston but are you throwing the 6" or 8" trout or the 3.75" grass minnow? The casting rods at number 2 will cover most smaller single hook swim baits and a heavier cranking style rod will cover some hard body treble hook swim baits up to an ounce in weight or so but when you get into the 2oz and up big swim baits, that is when you need a specialized swim bait rod that is meant to handle that stuff and all you need to do is ask what rod you need for which ever swim bait and the guys will help you, I can't as those giant swim baits aren't good for my fishing as most end up catching Musky. I hope this list makes it easy for you to understand and help you in asking for the right help, it isn't meant as a smart remark but it was a little confusing to read your post so I figured this might help you understand what kind of rods you should be looking at for various techniques and baits.

That's pretty good for me. I think where I got u confused was I was informing you of the rods I have, mostly kvd rods casting (red tour kvd rods) I was just throwing that in there incase there good enough for the application and can spare that style rod. As of now I'm only going to get 2 rods 1 for each the spinning and baitcaster so I belive those kvd rods I have will be more then enough to cover my crank bait and I can focus on two rods for lighter soft plastics and the other for the medium to heavier jigs and those will be duckett because my vendettas seem to be a little fragile. I do also have the wright n mcgill spinner bait rod jig rod and the spinning rod for shaky head senko but like I've said in looking for a quality rod and I belive duckett would fit that well at the price.

As of now I'm only going to get 2 rods 1 for each the spinning and baitcaster so I belive those kvd rods I have will be more then enough to cover my crank bait and I can focus on two rods for lighter soft plastics and the other for the medium to heavier jigs and those will be duckett because my vendettas seem to be a little fragile. So you have the Quantum Tour KVD rods, are they the graphite or the composite cranking rods? There are 2 series and both are red, there is the graphite fast action rods and then there is the composite moderate fast action rods, which do you own? The graphite series is way to stiff for cranks, the only one that would remotely work is the spinnerbait rod, 6'10" medium power fast action but it has a soft tip section but you don't have that rod.

You can get by with a m/f spinning, mh/f and mh/mod casting rods for bass techniques. The next two most useful imo are ml/XF and hvy/fast. Spinning and casting respectively.
