crankbank Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I purchased one (morning dawn) of these during TW's black friday sale, and am eagerly anticipating its arrival. I was wondering if anyone else here ordered one or plan on picking one up. How do you plan on using it? If you looked into it, but decided not to buy it, why not? Should I have ditched the rat and stuck with an MS Slammer? Any general discussion on the swimbait, or any related swimbaits, would be appreciated! Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted January 21, 2015 Super User Posted January 21, 2015 I ordered mine (2 of them) in August, so still waiting. Plan on fishing them at night, along weed beds, and generally anywhere inbetween. That is whenever it shows up....hopefully before summer. Quote

Bill Siementel has been hinting at information recently on Instagram. Yesterday he said "Word has it that the Best Of Show, "BBZ-1 RAT" is on its way and should be here the second week of February", with more info coming soon. He also made a very vague post today, potentially about a larger BBZ-1 Swimbait. should have some good info coming to us soon. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted January 21, 2015 Super User Posted January 21, 2015 Im not real impressed on the BBZ 1 trout baits, have two of the 6" but hardly fish them. They just don't seem to get bit very well. Atleast not at the times I bought them when I first got into fishing swimbaits. Probably should fish them more in the summer. Quote

I am a complete swimbait noob, but I bought a few 8"ers and 1 6"er a few months ago. I lucked out and was able to pay $13-17 for the 8"ers on Amazon, it was some sort of hiccup as the next day they were back to being priced in the $30s. I was even able to pick up a fast sink Hot Dorado color for saltwater. Since I am new, I figured I could start with these reasonably priced swimbaits, then move up into the $50+ lures. Quote
Brnnoser6983 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I did the same. I ordered one on the black Friday sale and am counting down 2/5 the started shipment date. I also ordered the morning dawn color. With the overall size of 10 in I originally got it on mind to fish for monster northern and musky. I fish this shallow lake that the big fish thrive on top water baits. But I still might gear it towards bass. 1 Quote

Just an FYI from my experience, the posted dates on certain items on TW are not always accurate. They are provided by the manufacturer and will push out from time to time. My Gambler Ugly Otters in Royal Craw keep having their arrival date pushed out. I saw on Twitter that TW responded to someone complaining that the in stock dates are not always 100% accurate. That being said, judging from BS's posts it looks like we can expect the rat to be shipping sometime in February! Quote
Brnnoser6983 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Spro originally said early 2015, so the date is strictly controlled by the provider. And I'm in the same boat on waiting on a back orders. In the same order of the bbz I have some Berkley plastics that had a arrival date of unavailable. I think they finally got a shipment date of early March. 1 Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted January 21, 2015 Super User Posted January 21, 2015 The first arrival date was in Nov....then that was back in August. I'm just hoping they get them in before the card I used expires. 2 Quote
CTGalloway21 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I ended up canceling my rat order cause they were holding other backordered stuff waiting on the rat. Wasn't worth holding my MS Slammer for 6 months. Quote

Wasn't worth holding my MS Slammer for 6 months. They normally send the stuff they have and just ship the other when they get it. Atleast that's what they did with mine. TW atleast as far as I know doesn't hold instock items, atleast they didn't mine. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 21, 2015 Super User Posted January 21, 2015 I believe there's an option of either sending all but BO stuff or waiting to ship as one package. Quote
Brnnoser6983 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 They do BO all at once for free. Now if you want they can break it yup but it cost you. You can also cancel parts of an order and reorder it with another. They offered to do this for me, but I declined because I have mkay of my order waiting on the rat, and if I cancel, my back order items that are on are once again on back order. My understanding is they full BO items when they come stock than fill new orders. But patients is a virtue in fishing, and apparently when ordering tackle at times to... Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted January 22, 2015 Super User Posted January 22, 2015 Bettencourt > BBZ1More construction options, great handmade finishes and multiple sizes. Those rodent lures get SMASHED and I love using them as a wakebait. Not that the BBZ isn't a nice lure but IMO it plays second fiddle to the Betty. Personal opinion of course. There is no wrong choice here 1 Quote
Ginosocalbass Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 im looking forward to this bait, Its well designed and proven cast to catch results. Its a good size for everyone to use nation wide. aside from the I-cast award, I think it will be a home run hit. the price point is excellent too, Very few rat baits out there for under $100 and even the CL8 possum/water vole are over $35 The Ms slammer mini is awsome bait, but the joints are wide so you dont get the knocking sound on a slow wake retrieve that you get from the BB1 Rat, plus the BBz rat has an extra hook. otherwise, there functionality and fishaility is relatively the same. The rat is still a tad cheaper. I did not preoder mine because I am not patient enough. I will likely wait to see when the release of the Jackall Ganteral to the US markets, then i will buy both at the same time. Quote

Of course I'm fishing for stupid east coast fish that have never seen a bait like that before Quote
HookdUP Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I've caught plenty on bbZ swimbait ... 1 Quote
Brnnoser6983 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 So.. looking at the "shipping date" and it hasn't been pushed back yet... So maybe 2/5 it will finally be in!? Quote
Gary H Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Got my BBZ Rat, nasty shad colored, about two weeks ago. Already have 7 nice bass. Probably fished it about 2 hours total. It is super fun to see swimming through the water, even when you do not get a hit. If I didn't have one already, I would be placing an order tonight. Quote

The fast sinks are almost impossible to fish. They drop like a rock and have huge trebles on bottom. The slow sinks on points in the summer aren't bad, but I'd rather throw a glide bait now. I've had one of the big rats since they first came out. They are a quality wake bait and accommodate all sizes. The big one takes serious swimbait gear to fish or you will be worn out in a hurry.
