Bk4 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 So I got the 6ft medium heavy Team Daiwa T Casting rod and notice that the rod tip was too stiff to my liking is all extra fast taper "tip stiff" or is it cause the rod is short? Also what's a good technique to use for this rod since its a extra fast taper with a stiff tip? Quote
adam lancia Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Extra fast means that the rod flexes very little before it gets into the backbone of the rod. The tip will tend to feel overly stiff since very little of it is flexing before getting into the stiffer part of the rod. That being said, I have a drop shot rod with a titanium tip section that has a very soft tip but gets into the backbone of the rod very quickly. I'm not sure what you might use that rod for though... Super User Montanaro Posted January 21, 2015 Super User Posted January 21, 2015 Team daiwa t are known for being faster than their label. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted January 21, 2015 Super User Posted January 21, 2015 I like a six foot rod for top water fishing. Walking the dog , to me , is much easier on a short rod . Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 The "stiffness" or resistance to bending is a function of the rod's Power (M, MH....). Where the rod initially flexes when loaded is the Action (X-Fast, fast, Mod-fast...). While there is some correlation due to anticipated application, they are two different attributes. The best explanation I've seen is here: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/rod-actions-power.html. Couldn't have said it better myself. All the terms used as rod specs are subjective, with no industry standard. I wouldn't summarily write off another rod with similar "Specs" or description just because you don't like this one for what you're doing. A short powerful rod like that makes a good rod for accurate target casting of a spinner bait. 1 Quote

I use this rod for spinnerbaits and it was stiff enough to throw frogs too. It isn't a bad rod, a good entry level rod and still part of my arsenal...but more of a backup or bank beater now a days.
