Man as soon as wrestling season is over I'm getting my lazy butt up and getting a job... I'm always "needing" something fishing related but I'm always to broke to buy it haha

I "need" a new H2O express mettle, I "need" some 30lb braid, and I "need" a new digital scale because mine got wet and crapped out.... Man so many things I need...

Needing or wanting?  You should work on getting a job at Academy then you can get a discount on what you "need".

That's what I was thinking, but I'm only 17. I wonder if they hire people under 18, I'll have to look into that.

I'm sure they do.  You wouldn't be able to sell guns but you could sell fishing equipment.  I know I was working when I was 16.  Besides, where else are high school kids going to work.  Sounds like one of those trips to get things you "need", you need to pick up an application and talk to a manager. But realize it will cut into your fishing time, but that's what happens when you start working.

Started out mowing 20 acres once a week when I was 13 so I could afford to make a trip to Canada with my dad. Next 2 years I worked doing basic labor work for a clubhouse on a semi-private lake. When I turned 16 I started working in the deli in Cabela's, 18 I transferred to the fishing department. 19 I started construction while keeping the Cabela's deal part time, working 6 days a week. When I turned 21 I got into law enforcement and that's what I've been doing ever since.

There's work out there for you, just have to find it :)

Do you have auto bells near you ?

I think it is like Tinkle Bells but for cars.

Just kidding. Couldn't help myself.

As the old song says, "Get a job,da da da daaaaa da da da da da."

Where there is a will, there is a way.  Don't let yourself tell you no, let the hiring guy at Academy.  If you dont get a job there, go somewhere else.

Determination is the biggest asset in life to have!

Good luck!

There is also a tackle store called fisherman's paradise like 5 minutes from my house, Ill probably look into that place too and ask them about an opening.

It would probably be an easier job considering its a small store, but who knows...

IMO, if you go in looking for "easy" then you've already failed.

Good luck to you.

Small stores don't need people because they are a small store operation.  Stop procrastinating and get off the couch and go apply.  Flip burgers at McDonalds if you have to.  The real world isn't going to be handed to you.  Step up, put forth the effort.  You "Need" to apply yourself to finding a job just as much as you do in your quest for catching bass. Attitude is everything, just remember that.  Until you get that job, all those "needs" are wants.  My son wants a car when he turns 16, my response was well then sounds like you NEED to get a job and pay for it.  Sorry to be so blunt but you're not gonna get much simpathy from most of us adults that work hard to have what we do.  It's how most of us were raised.

i second the "auto bell" option.  auto bell is a chain of car washing locations.  i washed cars during and after high school in Charlotte, NC.  it allowed a decent schedule, got me outside and kept cash in my pocket thanks to the tips....  great job during and immediately after school

I'm not gonna go searching for an easy job, but a small store within walking distance from my house is more appealing to me than academy is across town.

And yeesh guys I'm not looking for sympathy and was just speaking about something on my mind, this wouldn't be my first job. I did lawn care but had to stop because the business got sold.

It's all good.  It's just how you put things into your posts.  Could of came off wrong.  I was just being honest and upfont.  If you wanted sympathy you probably weren't going to get it.

Do you have a YMCA near you? If so, look into what openings they have. If you find something you might be interested in pm me. I can get you an interview.

They always need life guards, coaches, officials for youth sports, membership reps, cleaning people and child watch attendants.

Pay varies sending on what job you go for. They will work around your schedule as well. Most of their executives or directors have come from these jobs. Pretty good place for a job, and it may surprise you and turn into a career.

I'm not sure what you are going to find in the way of a job, but thanks for not starting another "I Need A Sponsor" thread!  :Victory:

I need a sponsor.......but more for my bait monkey addiction.  But here I don't think I'm going to find "that" kind of sponsor as we all support one anothers bait monkey issues.

Myself and many friends in High School that worked at Academy. Make sure you express your interest and knowledge of Fishing so they might put you in that department. Trust me when I say you DO NOT want Team Sports, Apparel, or Footwear. They are very difficult to work in.
