papajoe222 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I'm becoming more and more aware of the fact that I am becoming way too dependent on tubes as my soft plastic choice for most applications. My mainstay for decades was the plastic worm, but during inventory of my worms recently I found that the majority of my worms were untouched last season. I observed the same thing when I examined my Flukes and beaver style baits. I can't remember the last time I tied on a lizzard to a C-rig. Might I even have an addiction to these things I asked myself??So I took a little test in an attemtpt to find out. 1. Which soft plastic to fish weightless? a) Fluke Senko c) Tube 2. Which soft plastic to T-rig? a) Worm Creature c) Tube 3. Which soft plastic to C-rig? a) lizzard worm c) Tube 4. Which soft plastic to flip a) craw worm c) Tube 5. Which soft plastic to use in a search presentation a) football jig/craw C-rig/worm c) Tube 6. Which soft plastic to wacky rig a) Senko Trick worm c) Tube My results (five out of six answers were 'C') are the reason I'm doing a search for a Tube-a-holic support group. I need help!! Opening day is six weeks away and I've already ordered two gross of them in green pumpkin and another gross in watermellon. At this rate, I'll have acquired an additional eighteen gross by then. Please direct me to a chapter of TA (or T and A) in my area. Either that or tell me that I'm not loosing it completely, because after all I haven't stooped to wacky rigging them.............yet. Note. On the off chance that you do know of a chapter of 'T and A' in my area, please forward that information either way. The distraction would be welcome. Quote
papajoe222 Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Sorry guys. I meant to post this in the Everything Else forum. Quote
Blues19 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 not gonna lie. Ive thrown a tube once. I may have to give them a real shot. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted January 21, 2015 Super User Posted January 21, 2015 It's only a problem if you're not catching fish. If it isn't broke don't fix it. I think I fished a dropshot 1 time last year and most of the summer I had a 3/4 or 1oz punch jig tied on with a DB Craw or some other trailer. I have no idea how many craw baits I have but also have aquired many tube baits to punch with too. You only go to meetings when there is a problem. If your problem happens to be you buy a bunch of tubes in gross and DON'T CATCH FISH....then you need help. But if you're catching, please report the the Bait Monkey Support Posting Thread where your purchases will be understood and accepted. 1 Quote
corn-on-the-rob Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 tubes are great! Most people have their main stay (senko, tube, creature) but when it comes down to it each has their confidence lure for a reason, it catches fish and not necessarily better or worse than someone else's go-to. While I would argue that versatility is good, it isn't necessary to be successful. now me, I'm a sucker for grubs... 1 Quote
Hogsticker Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Fish em if ya got em! If you're hooking up its all good. I throw a tube a lot when I'm not slinging a jerkbait. The two probably make up a solid 75% of my time on the water. Quote
riverbasser13 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 You are not alone my friend, whenever I fish a river with any kind of current a green pumpkin tube is All I fish. If it ain't broke.... Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted January 21, 2015 Super User Posted January 21, 2015 I've tried tubes a few times with very limited success. I've largely quit by telling myself that they must be a SMB bait and there's better choices for LMB. I realize that won't be true for many (most?) Part of my problem is that I get frustrated rigging them. I've read a bunch and tried a number of different heads and hooks, but I'm never satisfied with the presentation. So...I'll try them again this year, but I doubt my heart will be in it. Quote
Heron Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Hey Joe, What color tubes are you throwing? Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I dont see your issue Joe. Tubes are a phenomenal bait and work year round. As you stated they work just about any way you rig them. Its one of if not the top choice when I'm smallie fishing. Quote
papajoe222 Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Hey Joe, What color tubes are you throwing? See my original post. I purchase those two colors in bulk although a glow in the dark bone was my mainstay for night fishing, my supplier no longer produces them so I've been going with a black neon. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted January 21, 2015 Super User Posted January 21, 2015 I love using tubes as a follow up to missed buzzbait bites. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 21, 2015 Super User Posted January 21, 2015 Tubes are great! I like to use them around rip rap instead of jigs. I don't have as many break offs. Quote
